What is Nicaragua to me?

What is Nicaragua?

Its a place where the people are kind and friendly

Its a place where the people will take advantage of Gringos not because they are bad but because their culture tells them that is ok.

It is a place of beautiful beaches, mountains, lakes that draw us to be here in Nicaragua.

It is their country, not ours.

When you accept Nicaraguenses and dare to become like them, you become to understand why this country is so desirable.

Burning leaves, 8 year olds driving cattle, roads full of potholes, Nacatameles, Baho, Gallopinto are all part of it.

Opportunities to help the people exist although I think that you have to live here and choose the ones that will not use the help to just make some money.

Too many investors here just trying to make money while many of us are just trying to learn how to help the people.

One man FYL who is honestly a good man but sometimes doesnt get the fact that although some of us may not agree with him we like and admire his work.

One man Miskito Alan who once was a mentor to all of us here in NL until he died a few months ago, who was a father to all of us here.

Friends who decided to live here....Move from the U.S. for various reasons.

Nicas who join this forum and say the truth about what they think.

Those of us who love these Nicas.

My driver who had me to be his godfather at his wedding (its different than a godfather to a child)

Sitting in the heat and sweat of Managua knowing why you do it and why its worth it.

Listening to the rain in the rainy season.

Learning how to help visitors to understand what Nicaragua is as opposed to what they think it is.

Going hunting and fishing with the locals on their terms.

Drinking with the locals and understanding how they think.

Baseball and Soccer games of the locals.

Getting wood from the camposinos for the poor and getting around the police to deliver it to the poor people.

Finding places to buy materials that are cheaper than what you can get in most places.

Inviting people to my house just to enjoy the beach and maybe tell their friends to come for a few bucks.

Having the opportunity to have any woman I want although the only one I want is my wife Ileana.

Knowing that although many want to sell properties here that I can find individuals that will sell for 20% of what the realtors sell for.

Knowing that I dont want to get involved.

Knowing that I am Retired.

no no no... Not as gay as H-bob but gay in the happy way, like its a dancin' foot.

any woman you want???

Come on... to even say it in the same sentence, while mentioning your wife's name , I find it disrespectful. but It also seems to me that by trying to avoid the police to help out the poor, you have allready involved yourself. How long you been retired for?

Having the opportunity

But not taking the opportunity. And my Nica wife of 20 years understands the difference. Sorry.

Canta no LLores

What wonderful Prose

From a confident and peaceful man. Mind You, the.. sicilian in my genes part.. " Having the opportunity to have any woman I want" might be stretching it a bit somewhat.

What is Nicaragua to me ?

So well said Bob !! M.A. was one of a kind and no one will take his place , but you would also serve as a great mentor to a lot of us here at NL.

Thanks, Tim

Thanks Bob!

Thanks Bob for your heartfelt words and honesty. I'm glad to see you are enjoying Nicaragua and its people for what they are and not what other may want them to be.
