shrunken Head from EcuadorSubmitted by tacomasteve on 30 April, 2007 - 16:46.
![]() This is an photographic image from a collection of thousands, the most important photographs of the last 150 years from an excellent web site succinctly called Old Pictures. http://www.old-picture.com/index.htm Some Central America photos in the adventure section but so far I haven't found any from Nicaragua.. "Pictures of our struggles, trials, and triumphs. We can only fully understand our history by gazing into the eyes of the people that made that history. Their eyes will tell a story that no words can." ( categories: )

See what happens when you go to all those Grateful Dead Concerts!

:-S
what was the importance of these "shrunken heads"?
En Cristo, -Marissa
good question
I learned too much of my history from Saturday afternoon movies. I was surprised to learn virgin volcano sacrificing and shrunken heads were C.A. things and not just from Polynesia. I don't think he's creepy...I think he looks like on of the Bee Gees or maybe Sanjaya from Idol...

Well into the 1930s
Shrunken Heads from various Andean Tribes could be had on the souviner market for $30. I owned a real one once, and lot's of the comic book rubber ones. I'm not sure of the ritualistic implications but here's a good link http://www.head-hunter.com/prep.html
