What to do when a fire occursSubmitted by DanPolley on 7 April, 2007 - 23:15.
We here in San Juan del Sur are lucky to have a fire truck and some firemen to man it. It reminds me of our volunteer fire department of my rural Missouri town some forty years ago. But as I said, at least we do have a department. If you are not fortunate enough to live in an area with a fire department, a plan might serve you well. I will be posting an image of a recent fire close to home. It was scary, flames over 30 feet high and lots of locals hauling buckets of water to fight the flames. The fire department of San Juan del Sur did arrive after we called Pelican Eyes Hotel and asked them to call the department for us. We did not have their number in any of our cell phones (suggest you put your department number in your phone). For a pic of the fire and others you may wish to go to http://www.dancesar.com/ and select Dan's Gallery, Living In Nicaragua |

Fire response?
Hey Folks.... I was at a hotel on the lake in Rivas, and several of us thought we saw someone in distress in the water. A call to the fire department in Rivas was made, the FD wanted assurances that they would be paid for their gas before responding! It turned out OK without the FD.
