Chichigalpa, the land of rum and sugar/"Sleepy Town and Wild West - Wild West being our present era in this case - harmonize" is my first Nicaragua experience where the poor aren't oppressed or justice and rights denied.

It is governed with the rich man´s laws for the poor man´s benefit, IMHO and reminds me of a peaceful country I once resided in but without all the advanced-culture hype and with all the "underdeveloped charm", which largely consists of modesty and dignity or modest dignity, or dignified modesty.

your pick

LOL [ WOO! ( oops - just the Nic in me ) ]

*Nicaragua Safety Tip: Stick to neighborhoods with paved roads.

CHICHIGALPA: healthy attitudes and unharmed self-image, relaxed community, quaint location in Nicaragua inhabited by cheerful natives, a good place for retirement and to learn some of the Nicaraguan culture at a leisurely pace.

There are less chickens/cock-a-doodling and stray dogs/spreaded garbage here than there are in the capital.

The other weekend evening I witnessed a stray dog go into a full Cyber Café - most have fans and opened doors, grab a piece of garbage from the wastebasket and leave out the door with it in its mouth. No one else seemed to notice. The residents and dogs here integrate nicely. I did however find a fairly large spider of the same kind in my home on two seperate ocassions, which I Bygoned out of existence and a drowned scorpionin in a bowl full of water I left in my sink overnight. :-/.
