Abandoned hospital in Granada

So we got taken by our Spanish teacher to the abandoned hospital as an outing. It's pretty run down as you can see. Now in Australia (or I imagine most "1st world" countries) you would not be allowed in. And when we saw the security guard standing out the front we thought we were only going to get to see the outside. But... he offered to show us around. So we went through and he showed us the burnt out ambulances and rubble and where/what everything was before it fell apart. I think the story goes like this: through lack of funds during the contra war the hospital was shut down. Then gangs took over and moved in and it fell into disrepair (read: trees started growing through the roof etc.). At this stage it is set for demolition and a new hospital is planned. When it will begin and when it will be completed I could not tell you.

I gave up trying to do anything there nobody is sure and there is or was at the time a lot of in fighting.

renovate

I had heard that a Spanish company was to purchase and do a complete restore. This was 2 years ago. If you give the security guard a few cords he will show anyone around.

Renovate/Rebuild

Yeah... I didn't quite follow the whole conversation. I actually got idea that they were going to knock it down and rebuild and the idea they would rebuild at different points in the conversation. Most likely it is a combination of the two. I also didn't see any money change hands but I imagine it wouldn't hurt to give him something for his time.

Last I heard was that it

Last I heard was that it will be restored and converted into a hotel...

Well...

...that wouldn't surprise me at all. There's a lot of that going on. The whole of Granada will be hotels, restaurants and other tourist servicing businesses in a couple more years.

"1st world"

How can Australia be a first work country when they don't have the Pittsburgh Steelers there???

We've got Aussie rules mate

No pads, no end-of-down break while everyone re-groups, no time outs. Just bunch of guys (up to 36) running around, punching and kicking a ball, and each other for over an hour. Now that's civilised. In case you don't believe me read this.

But to be honest I don't like watching sport much and AFL is just too much hard work. Running constantly for that long really takes it out of you.

Aussie rules

Ok I guess you got me there :-D
