Is anyone aware of historical accounts or modern day recoveries of lost or buired caches, hoards, treasure. ect. Recovery of veijo artifacts..?? I have enjoyed metal detecting and relic hunting for many years and would be curious as to stories of lost of found... Nicaragua is an old country with much conflict..how many of those old houses...? Metal Detectors
I know several people who brought the hand held device into Central America ins a checked bag. It was sort a problem or nussance for all of them. I know a guy who brought one to Nicaragua in 2003 or so and it was held at the airport until he got some notarized paper saying it could not transmit (so, I guess they thought it was a radio communication device?). In Honduras too it was held at San Pedro Sula Airport until a police had a military inspection cleared it and some meaningless paperwork was handled (I think he paid about $20 and waited 8 days for it all to be over). Another guy had it held in Honduras overnight for inspection. I am not sure how to check the status of such a thing but as you can guess it might look unusual ons an xray machine. No one I know of lost the machine but some lost days. These were people moving there not on a 5 day vacation or anything but it might still be worth investigating if it was to be a problem. As far as I know only one store in mainland Honduras sells such a device. I have not seen a store in Nicaragua selling them but there could be one in Managua (in Honduras and Guatemala it is a gun store that stocks them not sporting goods store). It is very expensive compared to what ones pays in North America but that is true of many things even common things like a tennis racket or fishing pole. People might stare at someone using one anywhere in the U.S. but people might not have a clue what you were doing if you used on in Nicaragua - and in some locales theys might think you were looking for mines!

had a find of prehistoric jade ornaments looted in the '90s, a disaster.
Lots of stories on the atlantic
There is a canon from a bristh ship in Pearl algoon that is a few hundred years old It is on the dock so ou do not need to have a metal detedtor for it :-) There are lots of stories about hidden treasure near bluefields and on the coast heading up to Pearl Lagoon and Tasbaponi. Miles of beaches to explore... But the most interesting spots are inland a bit. These were accessible by boat a few hundred years ago, but are and locked now. In the south near (north of) Monkey Point, there is a plcae called Hollow mountain whith lots of myths and folklore about being an old Native gold mine and repository. There are stories in Bluefields of people finding tresure while digging foundations... Lots of stories around.
