n the late 1500's when nicaragua joined the captaincy General of Guatemala to enhance their power and protection against the british invasion, it later won its independence from Spain and established it republic of nica in 1838. Which lead to leadership from wealthy families of power centers, such as Leon and Granada. The US invasion with Walker began the dispute and bad taste of foreign invasion. Conflict for fifty years was much like central american countries...wealth blindly leading the poor..into poor situations all the while keeping their own feet cushioned at night...the puppet president Adolfo Diaz had aroused much anger to the common people of Nicaragua and one of thes men died in fighting him (the start of the Sandino) his name was Benjamin Zeledon. The young boy that watched this beautiful country be torn b/w these parties was on the move to changing Nicaraguan history...his name was Sandino, Augusto Ceaser Sandino. Born an illegitimate son of a peasant women, he grew up with the hardships of poverty and anger which drove him to fight for his mother and neighbors rights....from there..its quite a long story..pick up a copy of the book "Meet me in Managua", but it shares of Sandino's attempts with mine workers and gorilla tactics to over throw his corrupted government..(can you blame him) Eventually winning and causing the US to back down, the government due to lack of (government sense and dictatorship skills) fell under his care...but at least he had heart for what he stood for..so I can say that for some ways..Im for the Sandinista revolutionaries and for the other part...well It just does not work all on passion.
