Supporting NicaLiving.com
The biggest way to help support NicaLiving.com is to offer useful content. Adding researched and thoughtful forum topics encourages others to participate. Even asking on-topic questions helps as the responses become a resource for new readers.
Site managmement of NicaLiving.com is made possible by volunteer efforts. Currently that means fyl. The late Miskito Alan contributed a lot to that effort in the past. As site traffic grows there is just more to deal with. If you are interested in helping manage the site, send a PM to fyl.
Financially, NL loses money. This is not a complaint, just a fact. If you would like to financially contribute to NL you can do so by buying a sponsor ad or by a direct financial contribution. If interested in either, PM fyl.

how to become a member?
This may be in the wrong section....but i am wondering how to start posting in other forums...i would like to become a regular member of this board, as I am building an extreme sports resort in Nicaragua, and would like to share and learn at the same time.

Moneybookers
I signed up RustingZinc@bellsouth.net (the fund for Alan's house) for a Moneybookers account. It's not quite like Paypal. With Moneybookers you don't associate a bank account with the account, you upload money in a separate transaction to a bank in Frankfurt. From their website:
- We cannot debit the amount from your bank account: You need to instruct the bank transfer by yourself!
- International Transfer! If sent from outside Germany to Commerzbank, this payment will be an international bank wire transfer and may be subject to processing and/or intermediary bank charges. Moneybookers cannot be held liable for such charges.
Oops
Well, it was on my list of things to check out. Sounds like they do fine on the paying end but not on the getting money end. Sorta the opposite of PayPal.
It continues to amaze me why there is apparently no money transfer service that both works and is reasonable in costs. But, it just may be the case.
You shouldn't
have to pay out of (presumably) P+P's pocket to keep the site going. Are you prepared to say how much a year it is costing you so the users can be encouraged to do something about it. Surely someone (FDC?) could be persuaded to bung some money; after all they get enough mentions on the site.
Costs
The biggest cost is time. I think, for both of us, that time costs money because we have other "paying customers" to deal with. The result is that stuff just doesn't get fixed/changed/enhanced in the kind of timeframe I would like. For example, I want to get a classified ads site back up--not on NL itself but associated with it. And a real estate site that I am happy with.
Now, the reason I bring this up is that in order to do this right (plus get away from the TUX Magazine "what is a dirty word" system) I want to move this site, NicaPlaza.com and other stuff to a new server. The server is there. It costs 70 Euro/month. The problem is that I need to get the time to get us moved and the other stuff in place.
My hope is that NL will produce the traffic and the other sites will produce the revenue.
