Not So Free BreakfastSubmitted by tacomasteve on 25 October, 2006 - 15:35.
![]() Continental always departs Managua at the crack of dawn and so often I find myself staying across the street at the almost swanky Las Mercedes. The breakfast buffet is included with your room and it's extra good right down to the omlette bar...Always best to try and get a good price with your reservations. Last time I just showed up and the room was $78 (ouch)... ( categories: )

does the casa iguana
special still work?
Yes
Camino Real also has a "Casa Iguana" rate tho not as well discounted as Las Mercedes...
Did you complain?
That they served you a toast that someone had taken at least two big bites out of?
no because
it matched the omlette
Election Special
Heck, they are even offering the "Election Special". Not poking fun but unfortunately you payed "Gringo Best Western Rates".

those bastards...
I land on Friday evening and William the driver will be there waiting to get me out of Managua....but I will stay at the Mercedes a month later when I fly back home. That time I'll bargain hard. Then I'll make sure to snatch the shower cap and all the soaps...
I hate to say it
but my breakfast looks just a little better esp. the color of the toast.
and I
toasted it myself
Here is what I do....
I always say that I want the Casa Iguana price and that I was told that it was $40.00. Always works so far.
thanks for the tip
I'll give it a try. What is the Casa Iguana? A place in SJDS? I hate to pay $78 for one night when I like to to pay less than that a week...
Casa Iguans is
a hotel on Little Corn Island and they used to work a deal for their guests to stay over at Mercedes at a discounted price. I don't know if the "deal" is still in place but, it has worked for me in the past. And $78 is pretty high. However, it is a nice place and the grounds and pool are great.
I'll try it
First time the schill in the airport came down fast to $50 and that was okay with me but the next time I just showed up, asked for a room and before I could argue they tagged my card $78. Too tired and sweaty to argue but it irks me. I think it's $40 worth of nice by Nica standards
For 100 Dollars stay at the Seminole
The Best Western For 40US is ok if you need to be by airport for a night either before or after a Nicaragua trip.
If you have to pay 70USD you should pay 100USD and take a cab over to the Seminole Hotel. There is much to do within walking distance with bars -Woody's and Disco next door. Metro Centro is a block away. Pretty safe.
Free shuttle to airport so not a problem.
Also the hotel is the best in Managua. First class with the best breakfast in the whole country and is included. 4 star stuff with a large bath tub and hot water. Wireless internet as well! They won't go down on rates and you should call as they only have 80 rooms or so. Super Nice!
Hotel is used mainly by USA business people. I stayed there a week and a few times here and there. Great Pool as well.
Show them a business card and you can get the Corporate rate which is about 90USD. Again this is the best by US standards-not Nicaragua standards.
sounds swanky
and definately a better value than Las Mercedes but my return flight leaves at 7 a.m. so I need to be in line at the airport around 5... too early for anything more complicated than stumbling across the street...
