I didnt really know him except a few exchanges on this board...but logic will give me some clues and youse that knew him can fill in the rest. He was an Entrepreneur that had the brains and balls to come to Nica from the USa and "bets his money and takes his chances"...fell in love with Nica...and stayed for the count...regardless of obstacles and costs! Some say he was a heavy Drinker , especially of FDC, but so where many good men of note (maybe not FDC necessarily)everyone chooses their own way to go...their own poison per se...at leaST HE CHOSE TO ACTUALY lIVE HIS LIFE UNLIKE MOST! Hear Here! "Most people lead lives of quiet desperation..." and most of that is not due to indulgence but rater lack thereof...denial and depravation! The Lion Lives and Roars...the rest un & hide! MOst are afraid to try anything but the status quo, or what soeone else wants for them or thinks they deserve...anyone who breaks free of that is at least a bit of a Hero..and a Lion at heart! Alan's Memory
How sad. I thought I would check in today and see how things are going in Nicaragua. I'm so sorry that my dear cousin's memory is the subject of such mean-spirited comments. I won't bother to return to this site. Sharon
A toast to a great man
I have spent many hours socializing with Alan, and yes he enjoyed his fdc and what is wrong with that, and I have several photos of Alan to show, that I will post when I return home. So all can see how much of genuine southern gentleman Alan was all the way to the bottom of the plate of grits he so muched loved. He was always ready to help or give advice ,maybee his straight foward,no beating around the BUSH look on life was more than most could handle.Which was Alan before or after an fdc. I always respect up front person , I rather hear the truth and be hurt than live in a lie and look like a fool. So to speak bad about this man is "wrong" if you have a problem with drinkers then just go away and keep your sour opions to your self or just sit there and sip your water and enjoy the stories.

I know he had his good share of FDC but no one can say that's what killed him. I could be wrong but so far that sounds like mere speculation, I don't believe that. On 2nd thought, I hope he got a chance to enjoy some FDC before God decided to call him to his side...

I know we all do. It's a different site without him. Not bad, just different. It's kind of like family, when you lose someone it takes some time to adjust but you always keep them in the memory banks. We'll just have to keep finding ways to amuse each other...

Dont know who this Tegan is and what grudge she had aganst him...but i am just asking those of you who had any positive contact with MA to say something in SALUD to a guy who had heart...like all us crazy gringos that uproot and go to a foreing land knowing noone and often not even the language and JUST GO FIR IT!

I believe the incident which caused a lot of resentment, was when Alan took it upon himself to email one of the people that have something to do with the community in which she purchased, on her behalf, without her knowledge.
I believe he asked what the deal was, why she did not recieve the deed in a timely fashion.
M.A. had good intentions (I suppose, he usually tried to help people) however he probably should have gotten her permission first. I personally would not like it if someone tried to solve a problem on my behalf, without me knowing about it, especially when its a personal issue.
Mistakes were made unfortunately, however its all the past now.

I've seen phone numbers posted, attacks on others from drunken rages, accusations and totally immature behavior from the late Alan in the past...
But writing a letter without permission is just inexcuseable...I bet it wasn't just a nice calm letter knowing how he felt about "gated communities"

I dont know or want to know what youre differences with ALAN were, but have a little self-respect, which means not talking Ill of the deceased who are not here to defend themselves. If it was Hitler or Stalin or Ortega, no problem..but opinions and sides on minor life differences, have no place at a WAKE!
Alan and i had diffences of opinion, as he seemed to be Left , and therefore wrong ,on many issues. But i would even find someting nice to say in the case of the other LeftIes on this board croaking early too. Heck i would even find something nice to say about Ortega if he was so kind as to follow Herty's example and croak before the elections!
The guy wasnt murdered on contract or anything like that...he died peacefully in his sleep.
