It's about blooming time...

.

These are growing on one of the trees in our backyard in Granada. On any given day there are 10-15 blooms, usually in clusters of two.

The REALLY spectacular orchids have just sent out their stalks and we should have awesome pics in about 10 days or so!

The orchid family has more species than any other plant family except maybe the grass family. I used to have thousands of orchids in my greenhouses, mostly hybrids but many species. I remembered padrealyson's orchid as being a very well known species but I couldn't remember the name, I had to look it up. Its Brassavola nodosa - called the "Lady of the Night" because the scent is stronger at night. It has a wider range than most orchids, it can be found all the way from Mexico to Venezuela.

Lady of the night is an interesting name.

Are any called Lady of the Evening?
