Internet revisitedSubmitted by evets on 15 October, 2006 - 09:18.
It would be very helpful if FYL and others could update us all on the latest Internet situation. As I understand it (if you haven't got a phone line or cable) the only options are BGAN which is ludicrously expensive ($10/megabyte) or satellite (DirecWay now Hughes) which has the worst user feedback I've ever seen. Presumably some resorts (in my case Sea Ranch) will eventually have some form of broadband wireless access which they may be persuaded to share but, apart from that, are there any other possibilities ? need cable internet
I am considering moving to Nicaragua next year but will definately need cable internet for work. I have friends in San Juan but they don't know of any cable there. I read on here that cablenet provides cable internet in Managua, is that true? What about Granada? I would like to be as close to San Juan w/ cable. Thanks everyone for any help.
HowTo page
The HowTo page is http://www.nicaliving.com/node/2033. I believe it is up to date and accurate. If not, please comment there and we can fix it.
Thanks
I'd read that page + any others I found after searching for 'internet' and 'ISP' but that post is ayear old and you did say 'I have lots more to say so consider this the first increment in the story' -so I wondered if things have moved on.
Forgot to mention
'rogertroll' and his wonderful erection ('painting my tower') which, he says, connects with turbonett (Enitel). Is this a mobile phone link giving internet ? The prices he mentions are very reasonable for real broadband by Nica standards but I don't know if I'll be able to receive this, as far as I can see from the Enitel site my nearest source is Rivas and, although I've got a pretty high ridge on the property it is still 30 Km LOS from Rivas
there is a solution for you, I am working on a simmilar
problem right now, and will have the info next week
