the vets are back

in Granada at Donna Tabor's clinic and can spay, neuter and do basic health care for all kinds of critters. I believe Fri the 22nd and Sat the 23rd are the next open days...(donnatabor@hotmail.com)

You say stray dog, I say

You say stray dog, I say fajitas.

Now

THAT'S pretty cruel of you to say. Poor dog...my heart goes out to these poor critters. Oh, and disgusting, I might add.

I don't know, with a little

I don't know, with a little work, I think we're lookin' at a damn fine dish of Carne Asada.

Well, of course we'll need some EVO and herbs!

He's still alive!

Went out this morning to go to LaCayo and this poor pup was out in front of the house. I was actually going for dog food and fruit for Coco (my parrot that I rescued from the freaking street vendors) On the way home I gave him a pile of food. His mange is really bad and when I talked to the vet he said that the injections they normally give a dog for mange would probably kill it. If he hangs around out front I'll continue to feed him. Now to to Vet Clinic....... Donna Tabor (donnatabor@hotmail.com) has a clinic that should be open in two weeks. There are two vets that are coming down from the states to volunteer for a couple of weeks. I know she still needs alot of supplies and cages to help with the project. Right now they can only neuter the male street dogs. Street dogs: They can't spay the females as they have no long term (1 week) care available and the incision/stiches need to be cared for. The males are simple. Cut/remove/one stitch/spray. For dogs with owners, they will provide both services. Donna's long term goal (5 years) is great. She's helping the animals of Granada. Write to her for more info. For those of you who know Donna you know her intentions are sincere. Her bio on what's she done to help Nicaraguans are endless. Along with the clinic I know she is currently working with two dear friends of mine here in Granada with a "public" library project (Puedo Leer) for kids (contact: carolannrea@hotmail.com)

Pura Nica, Bobby

Is it the same vets

that kitty888 mentions? "We have a team of British and Australian vets coming to the clinic in Granada Nov. 19"

Spay/Neuter clinic

'das d' one. I've spoken to many Nicaraguans who are willing, excited and relieved to stop the puppy and kitten factories. It is a free service offered to Nicas. We Gringos who have adopted street animals are welcome, too. A donation to the clinic would be much appreciated. Anyone needing help with transportation of animals to the clinic can contact me.

Animal Vendors

Everytime you "Rescue" an animal from a "freaking" street vendor it gives them incentive to get more of the same animal to sell.

Spay/Neuter Clinic

Ah, Juan, you see in this picture the problems of animal overpopulation!! Again, the vets are coming to Donna's Spay/Neuter clinic the week of Nov. 19. Speak to your neighbors and offer to help. Selling birds has some legal ramifications. A policeman in the central park went after a vendor stating it is an illegal activity. Perhaps there is legal recourse. In the meantime we can make a small dent in the problem--or we could stand back and watch them suffer.

Well, bless you

Bobby, for doing that. When you said that the vet said that the shot would kill it, did you mean the mange or the dog? I wonder if you could take care of him long enough so that he could survive the shot, as well as have Donna take care of him. If I wanted to donate to help Donna, should I just contact her?

Get ya' some burnt

motor oil and give the little feller a bath in it,

that will get rid of the mange. but if you feed him you will never git rid of him.

Steve,

this photo just breaks my heart. Until I returned to Nicaragua in Feb., I'd forgotten about the poor animals and how they're not taken care of. If/when I move back, this is one of the "jobs" I feel I must take on; that is, doing something about the out-of-control endless procreation of the dogs...this hits very close to home with me.

I felt bad about it, too at first

But no one there has one milligram of sympathy for them. They seem to survive as any creature does, though, and they don't usually bother anyone. Think of them as pigeons with four legs. I'm not heartless, I adore animals, but sometimes there's just nothing humans can do. Or is there?

AAAAGH!

That is one sad looking puppy man. I wish I hadn't seen that...poor thing.

I am totally against cruelty to animals but as much as they (or is it just MY dog?) would like us to believe, dogs are not human, OK?

That's not the point

Lots of people aren't human.

My dog

who's name happens to be Gato, is human. Much more human than most humans I know...

Since I'm done with the "Thrash pick up" project

The next project will be a "Free to anyone that truly can not afford it" Veterinarian Clinic.

The last project has taught me: When doing a community project, one has to be prepared to pretty well "Go it alone".

Therefore I'm prepared to raise sufficient funds to make the clinic happen and to keep it going for quite some time. When I'm ready, I'll post here and let everyone know what the plans are. It should not be too far down the road.

Anyone that is willing and able to help with a project like this please let me know. I'm looking for a lot of help and ideas.

In case you you wish to see why this is important to me take a look at Congo my "Rescued dog"

Jon

Was that

supposed to be "trash pick-up"? Anyway, I'd love to help this clinic keep going, as I am an animal lover (7 cats, 1 dog). When the picture that started this forum was posted, it just about broke my heart. My dog, my best friend (who is a Sheltie named Charlie) would never be able to survive the streets of Latin America. Sure, they are animals, but, so are we. There are a lot more humans who DON'T deserve to live than these poor creatures who have no choice but to be present. Please let me know what I can do to help. BTW, I hope to be in-country in the next couple of months.

I *LOVE* cats

...dead cats

OK,

why? Please let me know, OK?

Their f&c#k&in' attitude.

Their f&c#k&in' attitude. Remember, if your cat was 500 pounds, it would EAT YOU. There's only one cat in the world that is cool, and that's my cat - not everyone elses. Makes me sick, like everyone's baby, people oooo look how precious! Hereeeee kitty kitty. They go in a cat crap cave cause they don't know how to go outside like their "stupid" dog counterparts. They get hair all over the place. Not my cat. I have a West Virginia Hairless - he plays the banjo and was raised by dogs and the grace of God. Not your cats, and not anyone elses stupid cat.

You

have no idea what you're talking about, obviously. I DO have one that's 500 pounds! Well, maybe 15, but she's large & in charge. All 7 of MY cats go outside - yours doesn't sound that smart if it doesn't know how to poop outdoors. AND, my cats think the dog is one of them. So there.

What style of banjo

Greetings,

I have played with a great many different types of banjo players, but never a feline one (though I do know one who is a real fox). What style does he play?

Alan s. Wicks Banjo player Kennewick, WA

The cat plays contemporary

The cat plays contemporary jazz. He's a cool cat.
