Alegria Retrograda

It probably means, "Backward Happiness" or "Old fashioned Happiness"

Al

Hmmm...

I wonder if it should be "retrógrada", which means reactionary?

Retrogada

A person that opposes all forms of progress.

Al

i googled retrogada

it comes up as retrograde in english translations of spanish pages.

hmmm

The reason I asked is this: I have a painting by a young man from SjdS, which is titled "Alegria Retrogada" and it's of flowers. Retrograde happiness? Doesn't exactly make sense to me!

Thanks for the responses. I'll go check my dictionary to see if there's something I'm missing.

MA would have had a good joke of a response, I bet.

another way to say

alegria retrograda = melancholy?

Somebody which lives in the past

Retrograda is someone living in the past, so in this case I bet it means alegria passada, happines of onother period, probably is refering to a period when people was happier then now.

Giacomo,

I will accept your answer.

This is when being a native speaker of Latin and Greek languages (such as Italian and Spanish) comes in very handy isn't it?

The word definitely implies the past with a nostalgic and almost negative connotation. When you add Alegria. The two words, as a title, tell a profound story. Like John Wayne said, happy - dramatic - childhood memories...

Always at your service

I'm glad I can be of help in those translaction issues, I'm sure that in other occasion I will need your help too.

NICALIBRE Jacko

Perhaps

Like my childhood days???

Lyin' Farmer John Wayne

Well

Sometimes that's what art is all about trying to make sense out of the nonsense
