It's just a building

Its not a religious building and this was not meant to be a religion reply forum or a whipping post for the spanish, whites, indiginious people, deep translation of the Bible. It is good to know that zenpilgrim has a drink now and then.

Now and then???

Trust me, it's more than now and then.

Somehow

Lately it seems like every post ends up with a poitical spin. Funny how the picture of a building being refurbished ends up leading to such comments.

You can thank Hairball for that...

He uses words like a cat uses litter. Every subject is an excuse for his boring and rhetoric monologues.

If you read the posts

If you read the posts chronologically, you would see that it was not Hairball who tilted the dialogue thusly, but 'twas your brother in arms and fellow Hannity fan, Dear John. I admit that I am rhetoric prone, but, alas, Pompous Tom, please examine your own camp before casting stones hither.

Political Blog

Today I will start a political Blog and maybe it will end up with a picture of a religious cathedral.

long time coming

what did that house finally sell for?

There is no denying that

There is no denying that these colonial bldgings are beautiful and are a part of Granada's and Nicaragua's attraction.

Yessir

Thank those interfering, callous, genocidal Europeans for that.

the style is European . . .

but, those buildings are post Walker burning the city to the ground. I'm pretty sure they date to the late 1800s . . . not the same genocidal Europeans of the 1600s or the genocidal Europeans of the 1920-40s . . . these were the mostly civillized post genocidal colonials . . .

Isn't it the Spanish

that are financing the Calzado repaving? And I believe that the building is being restored by a Spanish consortium.Maybe a little better late than never Spanish guilt?.. Looks great with out the scaffolding, now if some one could do something with the Hilde Theatre right next door...

I believe you're right . . .

I believe you're right . . . there was a sign posted there in March 2006

Of course! You are correct

Of course! You are correct in your appraisal of the age of these buildings. Though I had overlooked their age, my remarks are still valid - as history has proven. Were it not for Spain's "discovery" of the "New World" even these "modern" buildings would not have existed.

By "discovery", of course, I refer again to the rape, pillage and plunder, enslavement, torture and genocide of the indiginous culture(s).

"New World" is a misnomer that reinforces and coincides with the other bogus idea of "discovery".

"modern", in this context, implies that the buildings are modern when contrasted with the historical period to which I earlier referred.

Had the indiginous

Had the indiginous populations been able to flourish without mass rape, plunder, murder, enslavement and eradication, there is no telling what would have been. Alas, since it was not to be, and Spain did come and (along with the atrocities it committed in the name of God) build the colonial edificios, its architecture and romantic language are amoung a number of things that can be admired for what they are. It doesn't make it right. The buildings are beautiful and that still stands.

As I've alluded to often, things, usually, aren't as black and white as Dubya and John might imagine them to be.

Sure they are.

I just don't let white guilt turn everything into shades of grey. Life's too short to wring my hands over things I can't control, like the past. I don't have time to seek every little nuance to each decision I make every day, like whether the food I eat was caught in a nice gentle way, if the coffee I drink is certified organic and shade grown, if the vehicle I drive is gentle to the environment, or if the words I choose will uphold a person's self-esteem vs. "offend" them. If my lifestyle offends you, tough shit.

I chaperoned my daughter's field trip to a fire station today. I thanked God the firefighters saw their job in black and white. We'd burn to death if they wasted precious time fretting over your shades of grey.

You DO have time to consider

You DO have time to consider (learn, really) history. You may not WANT to change the way you spend the time (old habits die hard) you spend dialed into right wing propaganda, but you do have time. False dichotomies do not work with me. "Either I spend time thinking about putting out the fire OR the fire consumes the building" - is bullsh*t (and you know it). Por que presentabalo usted asi?

You did present one of the primary edicts of the rethug party in your "Tough sh*t" if my (non-negotiable) lifestyle offends you (my neighbor). F*ck 'em (Tough Sh*t), I got mine! is the rethug mantra. And (many) rethugs profess to be Christians. Again, I ask, what is it that you would like to do with the world's poor?

closer to blind than tunnel vision

Do a little history reading yourself. The original residents were as bloodthirsty as they come. Although I believe they preferred their sacrificial virgins to be girls they probably would have found some use for you.

I think you'll find they preferred . . .

I think you'll find they preferred . . . their sacrifices to be from the other tribes . . . just like us . . . killing is wrong, unless it's them dieing. Not so different.

how about murder is wrong....

killing in self defense is not?

specifics, religious fine print ; )

is that what article III subsection whatever of the commandment says ; ) I've never seen the lawyer version of the ten commandments (not that I care or anything . . . but I thought you might be of the Christian faith . . . and I never heard about wiggle room ; )

I'm an atheist . . . whatever's necessary I guess

i laughed when i read your post.....

and not in a condescending way. Zenpilgrim was right, but then again i am not the super deluxe brand of christian. i thought i read the commandment was translated from the greek from thou shall not murder to kill. but i do agree to be a good one, it is a suicide pact where you don't take your enemy with you.

The actual translation

for the hebrew word (ratsah) would be murder so the commandment would be thou shalt not murder. But one would need to be careful not to take the word as a literal translation to our meaning. Killing in self defense would not be murder (nor would killing the enemy in battle) but our idea of capital punishment might not fit in the old Hebrew idea of what was justifiable. But war as we would tend to think of it would not be a violation of the commandment as it was put forth at the time.

But we also need to remember that these and the other commandments (over 200 if I remember correctly) were actually to set limits on human reactions and throughout the old testament, you can see these limits were evolving. An eye for an eye actually put a limit on how much retribution could be put onto another. Before that restriction, a loss of an eye could have been justification for the guilty persons death and possibly the death of his family (payback was a bitch back then).

This evolution continued into the new testament, such as when the woman caught in adultery was brought before Jesus and they asked him if they should stone her. If the accusation was true, then she had violated one of God's commandments and death by stoning was the punishment proscribed by God in the commandments. Jesus knelt and drew something in the sand (and I wish I knew what he drew) then told the men that the first without sin could cast the first stone. So much for the ending they desired.

Damn, a few rums in me and I even amaze myself at how much I pontificate. LOL

Now that it's morning

I went back to look at what I wrote, afraid my drinking might have caused me to not make any sense. I am surprised at how coherent my post actually was. LOL

But I do wonder how we can take an original post about the remodeling of a beautiful old building and end up talking about bloodthirsty original inhabitants, rape and murder. I had to go back and re-read the thread to see how it evolved...very interesting progression. We are an amazing group of people.

have you wondered about .....

our responses to the 82 year old lady?

I saw them

and just figured since it didn't make sense tome, best not to ask.

Your sophomoric assertion

Your sophomoric assertion that "the original residents were as bloodthirsty as they come" because they sacrificed virgins, indicates that you believe that the europeos were justified in committing rape, plunder, torture and mutilation, enslavement, slaughter, and the genocide of the indiginous (pre-columbian) culture.

The dehumanisation of a group's "enemies" (racism, really - which you so aptly demonstrate) is a vital element of genocidal group behavior.

Teach them to fish

Your rhetoric has become tiresome.

Yes Indeed

Black or White / Dead Or Alive. Sometimes the stuff in the middle just don't matter that much.

Excuse Me

I represent your comment.

Correction

I meant Calle La Libertad not Calle Arsenal as the route from the lake back downton.

La Calzada

Is La Calzada going to be only for pedestrians? It would appear so from the picture with the space for trees. If so,it will really change traffic patterns. El calle Caimiito will be the direct street from the plaza to the lake and Calle Arsenal will be the direct route back into town. Will the perpendiclar streets all be open to cross over La Calzada? If so, it would make my street Calle El Martirio one of the few connections for those going down El Caimito to turn and head back into town without going almost all the way to the lake. Probably should expect more traffic on my street. Good news for a business, bad news for my two toddlers.

La Calzada

is that the same Arsenal that beat Manchester United at Home last week!

maybe a boulevard like, other streets in Granada whose names esc
