Buying the Finca: part 1Submitted by Doug on 10 September, 2006 - 01:18.
We fell in love with Nicaragua. Our second trip down was to buy our finca north of Matagalpa. Yes. To answer all the friends and family, we most likely have gone crazy. No kids to worry about, leaving the homestead rented out (just in case we ARE crazy). We missed our flight home. What torture, forced to spend another night in the tropics. That was the final straw, we decided to buy the small farm we came to look at. So yes we are crazy, retiring before 50, moving to a warm, wonderful place in the mountains. The end of the road to no where. A river running through the fruit trees at the bottom of the hill, a pair of teak trees by the house just the right distance for my hammock Totally crazy. Back to the US now to quit work, pack and move. Feels great. Yes, we are totally crazy, to trade rat racing for watching the coffee grow. Give us the slow lane, the dead end road to no where. -Added 9/22/07 I never got a chance to meet Miskito Alan (second comment below) I did pick up a bottle of FDC Centenario to save for when we did visit, every once in awhile I get it out and have "a wee bit", tonight I drink to your memory MA, you are greatly missed. -Doug |

Maybe crazy but ...
I think you might be crazy just because it seems like you haven't spent enough time here "to know". But, it is like love at first sight. Sometimes it even works.
In any case, I have family (feels strange to say that but it's true now) in that area. It is really nice out there. I would be a lot more ready for it than my wife.
Anyway, keep us updated. It's a pretty "Gringo-free" area so we don't hear much about it.
Congratulation to the Both of You
Moving to paradise at a good age is a great move.
When you get settled; come to Puerto Cabezas and visit with us for a couple of days.

thank you, we will make it over to the right coast
It will be a while, alot of things to do. As I'm sure you know. The French fellow we bought the farm from asked us to take a trip to the East coast, wanted pictures he never made it over to the coast and regretted it. I'll bring the FDC.
Good for you. I'm doing just
Good for you. I'm doing just the same and spending half my time telling myself I'm a daft old fool and the other half not even thinking about it. If I knew how to post a photo I'd 'show you mine' !!
Have the chica in the cybercafe
show you how to post pix. Worked for me. When I got brave I even had her show me how to rotate.

adios has a religous attachment to it were nicas are inclined or obligated to respond.

depending on how you say adios and who you say it to , you can bring out a veriety of supriseing responces . if you say adios in a sauve way to a hottie nica , you can really bring out bretty smiles .

Yep, got them stuck in this time, in images- Rivas - if I were any use I'd have one of those clever blue links but I'll have some more wine instead. My folly - 50 odd apples near Ostional
