Forget the islands!

When did the lakes get filled in?

maybe they don't differentiate land/water . . .

maybe they don't differentiate land/water . . . only elevation. Seems like a lotta Nica is at lake level but, I didn''t see that much water on the streets of Granada in March. Maybe this was in October. ; )

what are....

those islands on the pacific side? who owns them, nica? any towns? how to get there?

invisible islands

Pretty strange alright. Just that one map has islands on it. Most of my maps don't go far enough off shore or they have information boxes covering that part of the Pacific but I'm pretty sure that there are no islands out there.

that's not like the USGS to get it wrong . . .

that's not like the USGS to get it wrong . . . but those islands aren't on any of my Nicaragua maps either. The proverbial, uncharted desert isle of Gilligan fame. ; )

Invisible islands

Before Panama was even considered for the first cross isthmus canal they were going to build it in Nicaragua. If certain politicians and business men hadn't started rumors about volcanic danger this is where the canal would be. If things had turned out that way we might be able to find those invisible P. Cab. boats on one of those Pacific coast islands.
