What have you heard about the new director? Why the old director was ousted? I've heard conflicting things and wondering what you guys have heard. (Ministerio de la familia in Managua) Thanks!

Rain?
Not to rain on your parade; but, I know how things move and work in Nicaragua and I think that you have a "long row to hoe".
I think that I remember that you have been trying to do this adoption for over 2 years. In the past years, Nicaragua has been very firm in convictions about Nicaragua born citizens without any other citizenship growing-up in Nica until an age of majority is reached. The USA (America) State Department has always included this info in their adoption statements.
Just like the "liars" (lawyers) in the USA (America) will take your money and do no work and/or accomplish zilch whether you have a legitimate case or not; people in Nicaragua will do the same thing. The adoption business is famous all over the world for the many "scams" involved in that business and yes. it is a business.
I know that you and your husband are sincere; but, I have many doubts that this adoption will ever take place.

Hey
No we only started in January and Nicaragua has changed their policy to include US citizens with an approved I600A (which is basically approval by the US to bring an orphan into the country which goes thru USCIS aka INS) The state dept has updated their site to add that. I do believe though that is why most people in the US or other countries looking to adopt have scratched Nicaragua off their list. Also la familia requires you work directly with them, not thru an agency or attorney. Which I think is a GREAT thing. It takes the profit away from agencies and attorneys here. It does keep exposure for Nicaragua limited on this topic but that's not necessarily a bad thing. If you search on the internet about adoptions you mostly find out about Russia, Ukraine, China and Guatemala.
Usually the part that takes so long in Nicaragua is the "abandon" papers. Since so many of the children aren't "true" orphans where both parents are deceased La Familia has to go thru a process of locating any family and making sure noone related to them will take them in first. This can take a few years. La Familia doesn't start this process until someone shows interest in adopting the child. Maryina already had this done so that has helped ours to be a bit quicker. A family from the US was interested in adopting her last year and then changed their minds. Going by the timeline of others that have adopted from there recently once La Familia approves it it goes to the judge to be signed off on and her birth certificate is re-done etc. This can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months. La Familia is supposed to hear our case this month so we are praying she will be here by Navidad.
I heard there were stories in the paper there about the recently replaced director that he was not following the laws of the country etc. I was just looking for some gossip from the locals if there was any:)
I dont know about that MA
Look at Mr. Steve's situation with his wife Cef's niece, it was approved against all odds but it took them a while to do it, it was easier because of the fact that they live here.

Thats My Point
Stephanie's niece must reside in Nicaragua until she reaches "mayor de edad" and I think that you know the meaning of that term.
