Beautiful!
Where did you find it? I can't place the flag, but the funnel's colors are those of post-1973 Bahamas. There's even a train for NYNorm's enjoyment!
Carl Evers
It’s for sale by the J. Russell Jinishian Gallery in Connecticut for $7,500. Carl Evers died in 2000 and is known as one of the finest marine artists of the twentieth century. The detail of this painting is incredible and the feeling for light is amazing. The name of the ship is the “Argentina”. I think that’s a Swedish flag. Evers worked as an illustrator in Sweden for 16 years. Glad you like it.
Yes, great light
I was thinking Sweden, as the flag's cross and colors seem to match, but it's not clear enough to be totally sure. What size is the painting?
The size is 13 ¼ x 17 ¼.
The size is 13 ¼ x 17 ¼. The artist also did some nice stuff of other Latin American ports. I wonder if the small size is because it was easer to travel with back around the 30’s when this one was probably done. Though he probably by ship.
Gorgeous
His realism & attention to detail were unbelievable. Obviously a well-developed God given talent. Evers was a great painter. Can you paint anywhere near as well?
Ojala
If only I could... I believe we all have talent, but as you say we have to develope it. Evers spent his whole life doing this.
Just noticed Mark's post of Corinto in the 1920's has the same dock house. http://www.nicaliving.com/node/5560
