Quinta Quijote is growing...

Quinta Quijote de Ochomogo is officially 14 manzanas (about 24 acres) bigger today. The lawyer in Nandaime finalized the paperwork, and Roger forked over almost 12 grand. It was a cash transaction, and while the withdrawal from the bank didn't even elicit an eye blink from the teller, our translator's eyes were like saucers and she counted the payment out to the owner at the lawyer's office.

While the appointment was for 8am, it wasn't until 10:15 until everybody was there and ready to conduct business. Roger knew once the lawyer said he was leaving to make copies and would be back in 5 minutes, that it was gonna be a long morning. By the way, "5 minutes" down here usually translates to an hour or more!

Interminable wait aside, at least we have that business finished and Roger can get his worker's fencing the frontage of the new property. I can't wait to see how pretty it will be when they match!

Our plan to put in cattle guards has changed to wrought iron gates. While our metal guy in Nandaime was more than willing to tackle the project, it's not very cost effective. I've designed new gates for both properties, and they're gonna run us half the cost. That's alot of beer!

We've also decided to rotate positions on the buildings, so the worker's are digging yet again. There's tons of projects to do before we can move onto the finca, but I'm pretty sure digging is the one the worker's hate the most. We're back up to six guys, and they are becoming very proficient in fencing. The work site is completely fenced off, including corral and forest areas, as well as the west side of the finca.

With our homestead being so spread out, our worker's have been confused from day one as to just what they were building. Heck, they had been hired to build a house and still haven't built one. Well, they got a real treat today when Roger took the laptop to work and showed them in 3D exactly what they were building.

My treat for the day was the gorgeous slab of wood you see above, a surprise from Roger. A gorgeous slab that I'll spend the next month turning into a rustic outdoor table. Ooh, that's gonna be alot of sanding!
