Corn Island CharactersSubmitted by cookshow on 29 July, 2006 - 19:27.
A couple of the locals you might run into on Corn Island (or may run into you). The day this picture was taken I got a great meal of fish & a guided tour of one of the many family burial plots on the island (visible in the background). ( categories: )

Ha ha (and ho ho)
Pictured are:
Eddie "Santa Clause" Downs
and
Marvin "Stay off the Sidewalk" Wright
Nicknames
Eddie's nickname is obvious, but is Marvin called that for his driving habits?
Marvin & Eddie
Marvin got himself a new truck a couple of years ago and after about 4pm; he usually takes the sidewalk in the truck and stays off the street.
Eddie told me that he never has a "goma" in his life because he keeps a Plata by the bed and if he wakes up in the middle of the night with a bad feeling - He Just Pops a Shot.

and then I Wonder;
what was Kevin (cookshow) drinking when he took this picture?
The faces are a little obscure but not up to the "invisible boat" quality.

Actually
Eddie Downs is a great fisherman and my great friend.
Anita Moses de Downs (wife) was Alcaldessa of Corn Island from 1990-1996 and is my very good friend and a wonderful woman.

Eddie owes me a fishing trip
Eddie & I were supposed to go fishing the day after this photo was taken, but there was some problem with his formula for preventing a goma. When I went to meet him, he was still in bed & yelled out to Anita that there would be no fishing today.
Last year when I was on the island I had the pleasure of attending Anita's B-Day party, a good time for sure.
B-Day Parties
I used to attend all of her b-day parties and six police and the chief would always be there for crowd control. Thats what I was always told; but, I really think the reason was that everybody knew that Marvin would be there.
In 1995, I even took my Papa there to the party on his only visit to Nica.
