Adopting-My Daughter

This is my daughter, it's just not official yet. We are waiting for La Familia to approve it so she is still in the orphanage in Veracruz and we are in the USA. We came to visit in June and hopefully will be returning soon.

Just Curious?

Do you meet the requirements?

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT: According to Nicaraguan law, prospective adoptive parents must either be Nicaraguan citizens or have a permanent residence in Nicaragua and plan to remain in Nicaragua until the child reaches the age of majority. In the cases of U.S. citizens with an approved I-600 or I-600A, the residency requirement is typically waived.

BTW/ Beautiful child and I hope that all goes well.

Hi

Yes we have an approved I600A and all of the required paperwork is at La Familia but they have not had a consejo (sp?) since May because of the change in directors. Hoping they will hear our case soon. Our friends in Managua met with the new director and they said everything looks fine and they don't anticipate any problems. We'll just feel much better once it's officially approved. Of course she's the most beautiful girl in the world :) Thanks :)

I'm Crawling Like a Baby

AmilySue - I've lived on the Atlantic Coast of Nicaragua for 15 years and everything moves so slowly that I just crawl like the baby that I was many years ago.

Do you have a lawyer?

Our lawyer in MGA is Paul Tiffer and very well respected and talks good English too and knows how to get things done in Nicaragua and is not very expensive.

Attorney

Yes we are using the same attorney that was recommended by the orphanage director and other families we know in the US have used when adopting from Nica. Her name is Nubia and I believe her last name is Rubelo she is in Managua. We have relied on the orphanage director and our friends in Managua because we are so far away and don't speak Spanish fluently. I have no idea if she's expensive but the rate she gave us is the same as the other families in the US paid and we don't pay her until the adoption is final so that makes me feel better. Plus she will have receipts for any charges over her regular fee. Our friends read over all of the spanish paperwork to make sure it looked ok. They have been invaluable in this whole process! I've enjoyed this forum. Keeping up on Nica stuff makes me feel closer to her and makes the waiting a tiny bit easier :)

Yep

With the little that I know; I would say that you are taking the right road to completion and again - I wish you and your husband a speedy process regarding the adoption of the beautiful little girl.
