Want to buy a used 4x4 SUV in ManaguaSubmitted by mackzoore on 18 July, 2006 - 19:12.
I've seen recent postings by ima1961, who seems to be moving down from SF and looking for an SUV in the 4-5K range. Strangely enough, I also just moved down from SF and am looking to purchase a 4x4 diesel SUV or extended cab pickup in that same price range. I've already checked out Chele motors... I agree that it is a rip off. I've been looking on tucarro.com and have found some interesting leads (a 1995 diesel nissan patrol, but not a lot else. I've also checked the customs auction website and with my crappy spanish, I couldn't make heads or tails of it. Can anyone suggest a reputable used car dealer in managua? Or anyone have or know of a friend who has a decent 4x4 in that price range for sale. Thanks ( categories: )

I'm selling my 2002 Montero io . . .
it is in Managua. It is a model that was not sold in the States. It is similar to the other montero's but it is smaller, 1.8 liter engine, gasoline. It is a 4x4 and in good shape.
PM me if you want to know more.
I agree with the other comments that you need to think about nine to ten thousand for a decent vehicle in Nicaragua. Hate to have to sell the vehicle but I am up in the States now and will be here for a good while.

Credit?
If you want to sell on credit; possibly me and/or John would be interested in the Montero.
Two Questions: will the truck cross water and/or fly like a plane like my former Land-Rover?
The Land-Rover of mine was not sold in the USA (America) and I had to even give it away in Corn Island.

I'd have to run your report first . . .
but then it would come back in Babble and I'd have to go to you for a translation . . . which would sort of defeat the purpose.
I updated the photo to show the actual vehicle, btw . . .

You will not find anything
You will not find anything worth buying and keeping for four or five thousand dollars.
It will be junk.
Move up to the nine or ten thousand dollar figure, then start watching La Prensa in their want ads. With patience, you will find something. It will be far from new but it is possible to find a good truck in that price range.
To give you an idea of "value" here. I used to have a '95 Mitsubishi Montero. The Turbo was completely blown out of it. The body was in OK shape but...it was moments from dying. I sold it for just under five thousand dollars! And that was a "one day" sale where I went to the local car dealers and asked them what they would give me for it!
Four wheel drive vehicles here are very expensive and, as Alan rightly pointed out, there is no such thing here as a good used car dealer. They do not exist so get it out of your head now and save yourself some grief.
I'll also add, once you buy that "new" used truck, you'll get to enjoy a couple of days running around, standing in different slow lines to get license plates for it but...that's another thread for another time.
I just bought a brand new Ford Ecosport. US$26,000! Much smaller than my old Montero but she's fast and it's NOT a diesel engine. I know all the reasons some people think diesel is better. After ten years here, I'm sick and tired of them. Give me the power of a gas engine and I'll pay a few cents more a gallon to pass all the black smoke blowing diesels we have on the road here.
Be advised, car loans here are for new cars only. If you want a loan to buy a used car it has to be a personal loan with a much higher interest rate than what you'd expect to pay buying a car on credit in the states.
Best of luck!
Reputable Used Car Dealer?
That statement and the "CIA" are both oxymorons.
