Armadillo

Armadillo

A baby armadillo in San Juan del Sur. It is too young to have been separated from its mother. No one knows what happened to her. It will be bottle fed for now.

Good Eating

I have eaten them on several occasions and they are not hard to clean and good eating. White meat like pork...a little greasy. Good barbequed and in a casserole with white sauce and cheese. This one needs to grow a little.

good eat'n

That's probably what happened to it's mother.

how cute!

What an adorable baby, did you name him or her?

What would be a good name?

As far as I know the armadillo has not been named. Got any ideas? Our clinic has never had one before. The two-toed sloth was named Vilma.

Armadillo

Hard to come up with a good name if you don't know whether its male or female.

names

I see the name Vilma and I think of Fred, therefore, how about Vilma and Vred Flinstone? Only if it's a boy :-)

If it's a girl,

Vetty?

Vetty

lol, great suggestion!

Possum?

Lyin' Farmer John Wayne just came into my office and saw this picture of this critter.

LFJW says back home in North Carolina that once these critters reach legal size that they are called

Possum on de 1/2 Shell.

I've eaten a lot of things

including sea urchin, snake, iguana, possum and raccoon, but for some reason, armadillo seems to not be something I want to try (but I never say never in this area).

One the 1/2 shell

That man will eat anything on a 1/2 shell but he sure is picky about his FDC. LOL

Recueing Baby Armadillos

I volunteered for many years with Project Wildlife in Califonia. I mainly worked with birds, but I had a friend Meryl that worked with skunks, opossum and armadillos. Her success rate with the arms wasn't very good. They are difficult, especially at the age of the one you have here. Don't fall in love with the cute little fella just yet. I did some searching around and found this link that might be helpful. Good Luck!

I was just sitting here and thinking of Meryl and how her neighbors felt about her keeping the skunks and was laughing and then I remembered something that might be helpful. She used to put a 4 inch diameter piece of pvc in the encloure for the arms so they had a place to hide.

Great Picture

The picture is perfect and the hand really illustrates the size of the young one.

This is the first time that I've seen a baby.

Thanks.
