Linux Business Cards on the Table & Our "fyl"

Submitted by Miskito Alan on 25 June, 2006 - 17:33.

Too many people are talking and I will now put the cards on the table.

Linux Journal is a published magazine that is distributed all over the world. Doc Searls & Nicholos Petreley do a few things too. Kevin Shockey is alway there to help us ignorant people. Phil's company SSC also publishes Tux magazine and Linux Gazette and other things.

I thought that "Miskito Alan" and "John" (John Reep) used to contribute something to something; but, our names on the masthead have been deleted.

President and Group Publisher

Phil Hughes founded SSC in 1983 to publish pocket-sized reference cards for UNIX and UNIX-related programs. In 1993 he masterminded the idea for Linux Journal. Hughes has been working in computing as a programmer and design specialist since 1968. He has worked with UNIX since 1980 as a systems programmer, consultant, trainer and writer. Prior to SSC, Phil was a programmer on a real-time message switching system, systems tester on a large-scale time-sharing system, designer and developer of embedded systems for the semiconductor testing industry and point of sale industry and systems administrator on UNIX systems.

Hughes has been active in many industry associations, including positions on the Linux International BOD, Linux Professional Institute (LPI) BOD and long-time member of Usenix and Decus. He has been the recipient of numerous awards, including our personal favorite, "Emperor Penguin", as so deemed by the Amarillo Linux Users Group Association in 1999.

Hughes holds a BA in Mathematics from California State University, and has graduate work in Computer Science at University of California and the Joint Center for Graduate Study.

Yikes

With the words "time share" and "developer" on his resume, I'd be wary of a guy like him :-)
