zinc answer

Zinc is looked upon as a status symbol, a symbol of affluence!

OK this pic is of Haiti but it does represent Nicaragua even though the picture was taken in 1926.

we have never lived in the shoes of the poor campesinos, we don't know what it is to be-without, we are considered to be well off by the social cultures of the world. Can we ever really understand this social culture from the perspective of an agrarian society!

Food for thought!!! #-d8-)

The glamorizatin of the zinc

The glamorization of the zinc is true but I would not compare Nicaragua to Hati. Haiti doesn't even play baseball, etc. Nicaraguans should realize that clay tile is much superior although more expensive.

"We"

Careful when you use the word "we", it's presumptive. I know there are people on this site who have lived in these shoes and are there now. There is no comparison between Haiti and Nicaragua, trust me. Nicaragua is a paradise compared to Haiti.

what do you think?

Hi Pete!

my problem is, that I don't see shoes on their feet!

poverty is universal! (Jesus said the poor we will always have with us)

I used "we" with poetic license!

Do you think it would make a difference if said: I have always had food and shoes! I could never under stand the sight of a poor bare foot child, but I can understand his ignorant bliss for I once was a child.

Once I made the mistake of buying a comic book in Nicaragua when I was a child. All the Nicaraguan kids got angry at me, do you know why? Because none of them could afford to buy the comic book, but they could afford to rent it for 2 cents. When I bought the comic, I took it out of circulation and they could no longer rent it.

go-figure, who would have of ever guessed! I wish somebody would have let me rent a comic or magazine in the US!

very interesting! ?-d8-(

I suspect

you’re beginning to do so already.

Welcome, it's good to have you along :-).

Only congratulating and participating allowed. Feel/Dig? I just don't have the taste for hating.

i am trying to say this carefully.....

se_vnt3, i don't understand your line, "Only congratulating and participating allowed. Feel/Dig? I just don't have the taste for hating." for example i have some deep hatred for the terrorists that killed 3,000 people. i hate that they think it is ok to kill noncombatants in a war where they don't wear uniforms. i hate that they take prisoners of war and then torture and behead them. and i hate that some liberals don't show outrage for that. my religion tells me to turn the other cheek, but being human, i've got a lot of taste for hating. can you dig where i am coming from?

Yeah, I can dig where you are coming from.

But hate still doesn’t taste good is my line. I rather attempt to make peace before anyone else gets hurt. There’s enough hurt in this world.

My son will be turning 14 years old in November and is a born-citizen of the United States who I’m keeping a very close eye on because he feels he’s ready to go to war now. I KNOW he won’t be seeking to flee. It’s just not how we do things.

Check him out with my nephew in the picture on my account. I can dig bro’.

i am a reservist

and served active duty for 5 years, 8 months and 1 day. no one prays for peace like a soldier. but, this is a world governed by the violent use of force. "I rather attempt to make peace before anyone else gets hurt." I would argue respectfully that Mogudishu gave bin laden the idea that the usa is weak. predators only fear strength and cannot be appeased. terrorists are like a cancer and need to be cut out. they do not have the guts/honor to wear a uniform, they hide in churches, hospitals and schools and the torture who they have captured. we treat out enemy with too much respect. hate, i own it, but i don't let it own me.

Well

Rosa you sure should keep an eye on your son since he seems to be turning into a "Mara Salvatrucha" cadet.I think the danger he will be facing home is going to be more serious than overseas. You little nephew is also pretending to hold a rifle, they seem to be preparing for a very 'violent and hateful" future Feel/Dig? I just dont have a taste for violence.

LMAO

I seriously doubt it. The only thing he has in common with those folks is that I’m a Central American native, mommy’s made sure he knows to stick with winners only – in this case, his fellow countrymen. He and I both adore Philadelphia, although we're not biased against Los Angeles and are well aware that I was born in Nicaragua and not El Salvador, and his father’s heritage is Puerto Rican, I doubt he will let Andrew stray to far.

sorry, i have to agree with the others,

i saw a gang sign and attitude from your son in that picture. good luck.

Keep believing and LYAO

Mara Salvatrucha is an organization that already spread through out the USA,and not only includes Salvadorians,The gang originated among Salvadoran emigrants living in Los Angeles but it has since spread to other parts of North America. Another huge part of "M-13," is in PHILADELPHIA, Queens, Tampa Bay and primarily emerging in Andover, a small city north of Boston. So keep believing

Relax ( LMAO )

My son knows what he’s been taught and there’s no reason for him to stray, he doesn't want for anything at home. My family’s doing just fine, thank you. Everything’s not for everyone – including Mara Salvatrucha. Just like Latin Kings/Queens have never been for me and I know some personally. Not to mention they’ve been around longer than Mara Salvatrucha. Now you belive.

And yeah, my little nephew's been schooled too. What about it?

Only congratulating and participating allowed. Feel/Dig? I just don't have the taste for hating.Lean back.

That is not

What they potray in the pictures your son is doing the "M" sing of mara salvatrucha or does he have a problem in his hands??and that look is the gang look, I lived 10 years in california in my younger years and just because I looked" spanish" never had the need to associate with cholos, tatoo my self or wear baggy pants become a hand contortionist, stand out for violence,so do you really feel or dig what your son is learning out there in the street?or are you trying to protect his inclinations?

1. My family’s portrayal

1. My family’s portrayal of themselves is for their enjoyment and no one elses. 2. The sign also stands for East Coast and West Coast. 3. That look is his look. Call it what you like. 4. I will ALWAYS protect ANY of my son’s inclinations.

Did I answer all of your questions?

OK, Rosa -

for what it's worth (my dos centavos), I think that what Walter's saying is to not let your guard down. I know, as the parent of a child, that I would be wary as to what other parents would say. I know parents who, to this day, would NEVER believe that their child behaved/acted inappropriately in public and/or school, unless I had videotaped them. However, having been in public education, I knew that my daughter wasn't immune to everything, and I NEVER took her at her word, because I know that "kids will be kids". At the very least, listen to what your kid says, or even, doesn't say. And also, do NOT be protective of ALL your son's inclinations: they might be against the society in general. Just be vigilant is all I'm saying.

MA Was in Public Education

MA & LFJW went all the way through the 3rd grade together til he dropped something or dropped out. I really can't remember what he dropped.

Also, I dated a public education teacher one time; but, I don't know if that counts.

The first thing

Children learn to do is lie, how many times did I go swimmin' all day with my brothers and friends, and on the way home rolled in the dirt to fool Moma.

Why intervene between a

Why intervene between a child and his/her innocence? You teach boundaries, the child will learn to limit others. You don’t teach unconditional love, the child will learn to give conditional love and so on.

Yes,

they too were family first at one time. Who knows? They probably still are.

John, I sure `
