Motorcycle Import2
Does the Nica customs use the U.S. Kelly "Blue Book" to assess taxes on imported vehicles, including motorcycles.??
Thanks. Al
same
Same taxes apply, unless you are Nica born have spent at least 2 years abroad and have not imported a vehicule.
FAP
Same?
You mean 40%? Of what value, the value I paid for it, ot its current, depreciated value, and who calculates that?
Custums do
Customs will place a value on it, based on Year- Model-. A motorcycle is considered a luxury, more than likely you will be charged a 40% tax on it.
Vehicules is different. The tax for a car which is considered a luxury is extremely high 35-40%, where as a truck is about 5-12 % because it is considered non-luxury, used for work.
Contrary to what people have said, regarding the year model of the vehicule, if it is for personnal use, you live in the U.S.A and you have never introduced a vehicule to Nicaragua, the Year is Not an Issue ,furthermore You are exempt from Taxes(if you are a Nicaraguan/USA)you can't sell said vehicule for a period of 3 years.
If however, You are Importing it the Year has to be 97 or higher, and you Will get Raped with taxes.
Hope this helps

Exempt Also
Business owners in Nicaragua Nicaraguans and Non, are also exempt on Vehicules taxes up to 50% if you got the right accountant, that knows the legal ropes about tax exemptions and business.

Business owners
Well, I am a business owner, so when would I save the taxes, at year end or at the time I bring the vehicle in? Is it still considered a luxury even if I do not have another vehicle in Nicaragua...can;t I say that i need it?
Is there anyway to find out EXACTLY how much before I bring it or do I simply have to take a chance?
Thanks
Luxury
Any vehicule that is not use for, literaly Hauling, is considered a luxury and have high taxes on it.the fact that you may/not have a vehicule in Nicaragua is irrelevant.
By calling the Nicaraguan Custums/Aduanas as speaking to a custom agent/broker he can tell you exactly how much it would cost you to introduce a vehicule to Nica.
To get the 50% exemption on a luxury/personal vehicule wheter be introduced or bought in Nicaragua through your bussiness, your Accountant has to file a requesition form with La Hacienda prior to the purchase or introduction.
If you on the other hand, are Nicaraguan and lived outside of Nicaragua for over 2 years and have never introduced/bought a vehicule, the tax exemption is 100% including buying the vehicule in Nicaragua. I have my personal custom broker in Esteli that I and a few friends that have moved back to Nicaragua have used for vehicule/Menage or Household items introduction, I don't have his number with me here thou, I could get it for ya, but will be till late June early July.
