Retirement here I come!!!!!Submitted by ezgringa on 3 May, 2006 - 13:22.
Well I leave the U.S. for good on June 1st. I have bought a house on the beach about 2km North of the town of Casares. I just returned from a one week visit in April. I have learned much more on these pages than I learned in my week's visit, and thank-you to all, especially Alan who has given me contacts to pursue when i make my move. i'm retiring from teaching Special education in San diego, california. I thought, "Why sit on my equity in my house? Let me go and have an adventure!" Leave the rat race.... In my week's visit there and staying with my next door neighbor's (they're gringo relatives). I found some difficult situations that i realize I must accept and adapt to. 1. Water is precious. 2. Electricity is precious. 3. Internet is a luxury. 4. You must never run out of cold cerveza. 5. Buy cotton underwear. 6. Someone else will be washing my cotton underwear. 7. Have patience...manana, manana, manana. 8. TP in the trash. 9. Shopping trips will be a major plan. 10. It's still who you "know!" OK I told myself I'd stop at 10. Now the good parts..... 1. I've got a wonderful Ocean view. 2. I can choose the labor I want to perform. 3. I don't need a watch. 4. I won't have to open junk mail just to shred it. 5. I'm still in touch, though remote. 6. The acceptance of the people. 7. I'm next to a Catholic church if I need prayer. 8. Food is great. 9. Cost of living ofcourse. 10. Osama Bin Laden won't find me. So with these thoughts in mind, I embark soon for my new life. My house needs alot of work, I have to get the bats and varmints out and do construction. (any info or contacts welcome!) I will be awaiting my 40ft container arrival and vehicle with EOM Shipping, my house here goes on the market June 1st as well, I have water tanks that are lined with asbestos..not good I hear! I need wrought iron work for safety. My well needs cleaning and need to bring in a pump, I will sleep on an Aero bed i am bringing with my 4 pets, but all in all I am really looking forward to my arrival and new life! I hope i will have the computer hooked up sooner than later so i can give back to what I have absorbed on this site, and continue to share my new life adventure! |

Retiring to Nicaragua also in late July / August
I have a beach house and another in a village. Have already unloaded one 40 foot container in Nicaragua. Now thinking about another container.
There are always the good and not so good side to wherever we live. I have decided that the plus side outweighs the negatives and will soon be joining you.

Sometimes I wonder if Osama is at "Casa de Sadam's" in the Oriental market ;}
