Sitting Beside Momotombo!Submitted by NicaNix on 2 May, 2006 - 19:36.
It really is a terrific privilege to sit in the cockpit of a small plane like the Cessna 150 that I fly. It flies slow enough that you have time to look around and enjoy the beautiful sights that Nicaragua has to offer ... just beyond the tip of your wings! ( categories: )

Yes indeed my friend
It is one of the best planes in the world. That is a really nice picture by the way... I guess you have a lot more. Do you take pictures of the airports you fly to in Nicaragua... I´m a pilot as well moving to Nicaragua soon. Looking forward to fly there.
???
I got a question: is that volcano still active??
Yes
Momotombo is still considered active, although it hasn't actually erupted since 1905. There were a large number of tremors during the late 90's.
There is a constant emission of gases. In my other post, I jest about how much is cloud and how much is gas, but some experts say the temp inside the cone is around 500º, so my guess is there is plenty of gas to come out! They say there is also a geothermal plant at the base trying to harness some of the heat into energy.
Momotombo Info
While looking for info on the possible geothermal plant (still looking for that) I came across some info on this volcano:
