![]() I am not much of a bus rider, but on my last trip I took a few like this & a few "express" too. The "express" is usually some type of minivan & I was in one with 15 other people (a few were small). The buses like the one pictured were great for the short runs, slow enough to enjoy the scenery & on the rides I took they were no where near as packed as the "express". ( categories: )

Theater
I've had so much fun on buses like this that I forgot to get off at my destination. It's like theater with people giving orations about how they have been saved, sales pitches about herbs or demonstrations of magic potions, some of these people are really good. You're a captive audience and you become part of the show. While you're enjoying the performance, there is a buffe, and you don't even have to drive.
Bus rides
You are right it is cheap entertainment. Always an amazing selection of snacks too.
Simular
Did you ever notice these bus's look a like this one:

The Smithsonian Institution tried to buy that bus believe it or not. Here is a link to more on the Merry Pranksters.

More or less I was just sharing my impression the first time I saw a bus in Latin America and occational I hope the people who are driving are not off on some kind of simular experiement.
I try and keep to the express bus service, but not always. It's still a thrill sometimes, getting on and off a bus while it's still moving ((Grin)).
Scary
...
Hey Cookshow
At least that bus looks like new compared to some Urbanos in Managua, lol. Some Cities, specially like in the north such as Esteli and Ocotal, have firts class expressos they are called Scanias,I think a couple of them even have where to go pottie, similar to the Tica-Buses that travel Central America. On some of these crowded busses, keep a feel on your back pocket,if you are standing up. Regards.

The Express Bus is pretty good and still affordable. The regular bus's certainly offer more adventure.
