Dug well with hand pumpSubmitted by fyl on 4 April, 2006 - 13:15.
![]() This is a photo of the new well and pump on my finca. See http://www.nicaliving.com/node/3796 for more info and a link to other photos. This is a dug well. It is then brick lined and a top with an access door is put on. Missing is the tube (it goes into the white T) for the water to exit into a bucket or pila. ( categories: )

So common here
The guy who did the well has built lots of them here. This is at least the Esteli standard. My preference is a "bicycle pump" which are also made here but I wasn't supervising this work.
The bicycle pump just adds part of a bicycle to the system so that you sit on a bicycle seat and use leg power to run the pump.
Bicycle Hand-Power

I have seen here in Port the same type bicycle system; but, no leg power is used - only hand-power.
This contraption was set-up for an ex-diver of lobster who is paralyzed below the waist from the "bends".
Other houses here have the bicycle set-up with leg power too.
