Salt
Arlington,
Did you notice how SALTY that water is? Locals told me it is connected to the ocean. I wonder what the lake elevation is???
I hiked it all by myself and only had to stop and ask directions a couple times. Lots of nice people live along those roads. Too bad you cannot tell where the lake is until you stumble right on it!

re laguna
I believe the lakes elevation is about 1200 ft. I'd heard or read it tasted salty but I never noticed that. I was sweating so hard by the time I reached water I probably thought it was me that was salty. You must have a better sense of direction than I. Were you following the Moonbook directions or a locals directions? A few tin Icons nailed to selected trees would go a long way to making it a nice hike. I agree the folks who live along the way "lugareños" were very nice and welcomng. If any had offered to guide we would have made it worth their while. Next time I'lll ask to see if they'd like to guide us there. The was a very, very small pulperia on the way, and they had all kinds of sweets and salty chips, and ice cream, but not a drop of bottled water. We could have drank a gallon that day. Our four litres disappeared by the time we got to the lake. Returning we were parched.
Thermal Vents
Heard that the laguana is fed by thermal vents with depths up to 600 ft. Would think that these vents most likely connect to Cocibolca rather than the Pacific. Never tasted or felt salt there.
This is one of my favorite spots in Nicaragua. Arlington, are you shooting these photos with a digital or 35mm? Great photos!
Ricoh Caplio R3
I just bought this Ricoh Caplio R3 before we went to Granada in March. I hate being a conspicuous tourist so this camera is the best of both worlds. Pocket sized and hi quality images. It's a 5 megapixel, micro camera. 28-200mm zoom lens, anti-shake technology, 7x optical zoom, 95x53x26 mm. Smaller than a pack of cigarettes.
Thanks for the comments.
AA? - Purses?
Miskito Alan ®
The "AA" batteries are always available.
If you can't find a shop that stocks them - Just check some woman's purse.

I prefer . . .
the long life rechargeable lithiom ion (of course I still use two - one charging one ready) over continuously disposable AAs. I really haven't found a weakness in the Caplio. Very nice styling and ergonomics. Very user friendly commands/menus. I don't know much about the Samsung though. adios.
Batteries
I have a small video camera & digital camera, I bought both because of their small size. The problem is that the battery chargers are bigger than the cameras. You would think that if they can make the cameras small, they would do the same with chargers.
Try the Energizer Charger
Just bought a new Energizer charger last week, seems to charge very rapidly, using 2500mAh batteries. Dimensions 3in. x 3in. x 1in. It slides out for charging...so far so good and much smaller than the previous unit.
Prefer a more "green" solution, burn up the alkalines in no time flat, and always feel guilty leaving them behind.
Look forward to seeing the Z1 in action
Hope my charger doesn't take soooo long. Guess I need to plan on two sets of batteries.
