Shipping from Nicaragua

Submitted by carlitos2u on 26 February, 2006 - 11:40.

Does anyone know shippers that provide service to miami? I am trying to ship a few things from Nicaragua, actually trying to set up an exporting business. I tried UPS, but after spending time with them on the phone for a 30 minutes on the details of what I wanted to ship, a week has passed and yet no phone call or email from them. Ahh what can brown do for you???

some tips

here is some of the things I know, I came to Nicaragua in 1991 for the first time, I am looking at things here to, I see money here , and I do things. The first container I exported cot 3.300$ to Miami, now it is half of that.

Everybody and their brother is looking into rocking chairs and hammocks nobody is realy doing well, reason, well the hammocks looks nice for 30 days or so, and the sun or rain will eat them up, rocking chairs, quality - workman ship - the same chair as the first one you get, is the big problem.

Problems is even on this site, you are getting bad advice and it is not facts, but I can give you one example, somebody was asking about driving a car down here, it was clearly told that you would be stopped in the immigration because your car had not left. totally wrong, I brought down a new Honda here and was driving around for 10 months with Florida plates.

Freight rates : go to a representaive of AA, ask for their best rates for shipping, I was quoted 78 cents per pound for Florida, 2 years old now, but just think about it, Nicaragua - and all this countries import more than they export, as a example, it was over 12.000 containers siting in Venezuela a while ago, those need to get out, same with AA and their air freight containers in Managua, they would rather getting something than nothing from sending all those LD3 containers back to Miami.

I this sounds like nonsence, contact me, because I was to sucsessful in a business here, and President Aleman made a law to stop me, and he did. Copy of the law will be forwarded at request. One final advice, be careful doing biz here, if you do good, they will steel it from you, I know, so why I am still coming here, because I love the country and their people, and perhaps the abuse. Excuse my English, This is the best I can write. Roger

furniture from Nicaragua

searched this site and still haven't found a definite contact or info on shipping wood furniture from Nica to Miami. anyone know who can do this or average price. am not buying enough to fill container, but if that's the only way to go pricewise, then I can buy more furniture. right now, just 5 disassembled rocking chairs and a small coffee table. any ideas, are appreciated

on da' Plane

I have taken 2 rocking chairs dissasembled in a rice sack on the Plane, for free.

www.trans-express.com

Hey

Lets let get Mikey to try it!

All the usuals work

UPS, DHL and FedEx all ship to the US plus Correos. I use DHL all the time for "important stuff/fast stuff" and correos for the rest.

Nicabox is an alternative. They are primarily for shipping to Nicaragua but they do stuff in the other direction as well. Be aware that if you send something back by them then the USPS requires them to hold it before placing it in the USPS mail. This is not true if you have them then send it via a different service such as UPS.

DHL

have you looked into DHL, I have seen an office in Managua. Maybe they will return your calls?

UPS

I tried the same thing with UPS and found that they will only ship up to 140 lbs in some cases.

UPS

Well I was able to get a quote from UPS. GEt this for a 5lb package shipped to the EAST coast of the States it will cost me $105 US dollars not including IVA tax.

Considering Nicaragua is the second poorest country in the western hemisphere, a hundred dollars is a way to high, its already way too high for a someone living in the states.

What are these people thinking??

Try TransNica

Greetings Carlitos.

Try TransNica, this is the company we use for our exports to Miami, they Charge from $.70 to $.45 cents USD per Kilo, with a minimum of 100 Kilos. TransNica's Office are located at South Side of the Airport. Hope that helps

THanks for the info

:)

Correos de Nicaragua

Dont go with those companies if you want cheaper rates. Just go to Correos de Nicaragua. The rates are comparible to USPS.

One advantage of shipping from Nicaragua is that the packages usually get to your destination in the US much faster, than the opposite.

I sent a 4 pound package to the US a few months back and it cost about $30 regular mail.

heres their website

http://www.correos.com.ni/

Iw wouldnt rely on their calculation of tarrif page to much it only goes up to 2kg in weight and I believe there are other factors such as size, just like USPS

Price still seems high even with Correos

From what I have read here the average person makes between $3-$7 dollars a day.. so I'll use $5 for a easy number.

The average american earning minimum wage makes aprox $40 a day.

The $30 shipping fee is 6 days pay for the average Nica.

If we had to pay to ship at that same pay ratio in the US we would be paying $240 to ship a 4lb package.

It it just me or does something seem wrong here.

Postage

Have you seen the prices on sending stuff from the US to Nicaragua?

I send 4-5 pound packages of varrying sizes, you can send it as a parcel post or Non Parcel post.

It gets tricky if it fits within certain size parameters for the non, you would think it would be cheaper. I have asked them to ship Non parcel post packages, through the parcel system because it sometimes costs $10 cheaper.

The typical Parcel Post I send that is about 4 pounds costs about $25. (from the northeast)

I suppose part of the pricing is due to the fact that most of the Labor used for shipping packages International is of International companies, Correos de Nicaragua takes the Mail to the Airport or port and from there its in a completely different labor wage.

I know DHL has special packages for businesses in the US, where the more you send the cheaper a rate you get. try looking into something like this, although I doubt the rates will be much different

Sending stuff to Nica

I have tried this guy in Miami, his name is Ismael. company INMA Telephone:305 631 1455, las time I had an Onkyo stereo package that wheighted around 60 pounds, delivered door to door ( no customs fee involved) for about 90 dollars.price of the stereo around 450.00 dollars that included 7 speakers with a big subwoofer..

was that from the US to

was that from the US to Nicaragua?

Not to be Blunt

but; the average Nicaraguan never mails or ships anything.

So, its no problem.

If the cost were C$30 instead of U$30; the average Nicaraguan would still not be shipping anything.

eh??

We are just discussing how much they charge and not if it is relevant to the average nicaraguan.

The average nicarguan does not fancy a nice cigar, a 500K property or solar panels for their homes, subject matters dealt here in NL.

I ship a good amount of

I ship a good amount of product monthly... use Arrow Air MGA-MIA. less than .50 cents per pound bulk rate. Shipping (container ship) companies are Bernuth and CAT Lines out of Mimai. They go to Rama.
