International Line Service HELP!!!!!Submitted by Shewolf on 24 February, 2006 - 18:39.
Hubby needs to call a number from a conventional line that has access to international calls to continue his visa process. I need somewhere in Managua that has an international line. Anybody know of one? I have been emailing the Embassy and got the following response about the phone call: If the phone number where he is calling from does not have an international line service, he will not be able to make a phone call. He needs to ask the owner of the phone he is using this question. Phones without an international line service receive the recording. We have 120 people everyday for tourist visa interview that call this number for an appointment, plus the applicants for Immigrant Visas. Cyber cafes do not have an international line service, they use a different service communication. He needs to call from a conventional line that has access to international calls. ( categories: )

Three Way Call
Why dont you have him call you and then you can three way call what ever number he needs to reach in the United States? An MCI, Sprint or ATT Calling card should also allow him to call any number he wants to call. But it might be less expensive for him if he calls you from the cyber and you set up a three way call using your local telephone company;s service.... The other alternative is that he goes down to the Telephone company and uses one of their pay phones.
The number doesn't work in the US
It's a call center in Mexico and the Embassy said calling cards won't work. It's supposed to be a toll free number that works in Managua and starts with 001-800. I've tried it from here.

Number
If its the same place, the direct number is Phone no: 011-52-477-788-7070 which can be called from the US.

Only the 800 number
Unfortunately, it's not the same call center. I'll be flying down to Managua on the 11th to see what I can do to help my husband get this expedited. On the Nica Embassy website:
Monday through Friday from 8 am to 6 pm
001-800-226-0231*
# The only direct way to obtain information and appointments for: Non- immigrant visas (tourist, work, students etc.) # Immigrant visas (residency) Is to obtain a personal access number (PIN) paying a US$12 fee at any Bancentro Branch around the country.
*This is an international 800 number and it does not have any cost. Bear in mind that you can only call from a touch-tone telephone with international call service.

Someone is confused
The more I read here the more confused I am. 00 is international access. 1 is the "country code" for the US and other parts of north America. So, if this is right, you are just calling a North America-based 800 number.
I have done this from my home line (it costs money), from an Internet cafe and from Vonage. If you are not calling thru Enitel you would not dial the 00.
I don't know
I've tried the number. Errol's tried the number. The Embassy said it's a call center in Mexico and requires a line that has international dialing/calling.

Wacko but I guess you are right
This makes no sense but if I call it from Vonage I get a "this 800 number has been disconnected". But, if I dial it from my home phone I get "Gracias for su llamada ...". So, it does work. So, um, just use most any phone in Nicaragua where the owner didn't turn on call blocking and call it.
More interesting to me is how this works as, well, it should just be a US 800 number.
That would make too much sense
That's our beloved US government and tax dollars at work!

Embassy Page
http://usembassy.state.gov/managua/wwwhcon.html is the page with this number at the US Embassy in I think what could be happening with this is The United States Embassy has contracted with entiel / Sprint / ATT / MCI whom ever to route calls made to this number, inside Nicaragua, to its processing center in Mexico. What we were all assuming is things that are standard ... It could very well be a Nicaraguan toll free number, available only inside Nicaragua ... That would explain why Vonage gives you a non-existent number and dialing it within Nicaragua gets you connected. Why doesn't he just go down to a Entiel office and pay them a few bucks to make the call. Its an international number but since its toll free, more then likely he will just get charged for making a local call.
