Just to clarify...
As mentioned in the description this is a private "mercado" not a mall....the biggest "vendedores" of the current mercado will buy "tramos" and move in here....just like in the "Oriental II" in Managua....
ah shucks
We were having so much fun slamming a mall in Chinandega. Spoil sport! ;~)
Picture of Chinadega?
♥ Miskito Alan:
I really don't think that this picture was taken in Nicaragua.
No "Toyota" cars or trucks are in the parking area.
I don't even recognize those cars and trucks.
Maybe the picture was taken somewhere in Russia. :-)

Mall in Chinadega
Chinadega is one of the absolute poorest areas I have yet witnessed in Western Nicaragua. Why, when children are literally starving to death...and dying of curable maladies, do they need a MALL?
Spelling Error
I think you meant to say Managua not Chinandega. Every time we go to Managuga I can not wait to get back home, the Chinandega area. We get lambashed by kids, women and men hustling for food and money. In the markets these individuals are eating what ever scraps they can find, (overview), you do not get that in Chinandega.
Now if you look like me you will get the “hit” for money but it’s because they think you will give it to them, but once you laugh or just say no they go one with what ever it was they were doing. In Managua everyone gets hit, ex-pats, vacationers and nationals alike.
As for the children dying of curable maladies, I am not sure what is meant by that. Is it that the mortality rate in Chinandega is different than that of the rest of Nicaragua?.
The comments about the Chinandega area being so poor that they should not have something nice concerns me. Most of Nicaragua can not afford the things sold at the up scale stores but to say they can not have the store because they are poor, well, I have issues with that.
In the early 80’s we would shop at what we called the “Dollar Store” and every time we went there (once every two weeks) I was the only chele shopping. People are not poorer now than back then, in fact they are better off aren’t they? Isn’t that what all the hoopla is over not having the FSLN back in power?
Now I will say that the town of Chinandega looks poor, dirty, small shops that are not the fanciest but looks are deceiving. People are happy (general statement I know) for the most part.
The northwest IS different than the rest of Nicaragua, it fact they are treated like the red-headed step-child of Nicaragua but they do not need “us” to continue holding them back.
side question
Speaking of Chinandega, do you have any pictures of the "Palone buses" The buses with out the roofs?
It "Pelon" which means
Its "Pelon" which means bald....here is a pic: http://www-ni.laprensa.com.ni/archivo/2004/febrero/05/especiales/especia...
Thanks
better than I had pictured them. I can just imagine those buses during the rains
They need a mall...
The people who dreamed it up was a bunch of guys sitting around a table drinking FDC. Remember that Chinandega is the bread basket of Nicaragua, so all the cana is grown there and the FDC is made there as well. So I hold up my imported bottle of FDC and salute Chinandega.
Mall
Is progress such a bad thing for a 4th world country not even a 3er as always refer to?.
!Arriba Los Chinandeganos!= Up with progress for Chinandega move out of the stone age, set your priorities.
Mall first then Food are Food first then Mall (Who cares)
creating demand
without creating the means only leads to consumption envy and sometimes crime if people feel an entitlement to these useless products. Consumption is a useless measure of progress. Sadly, it's the only one we recognize in the west. GDP means resources and environment have been destroyed. A Kalahari tribesmen will always be richer than Gates or Buffet in my book. How sad that all the Gates wannabes think they're benefiting the world by shopping til we all drop.
why?
Arriba con la cultura Norte Americano!? afuera con la cultura Nicaraguense!?
I think theres other ways of going about making an establishment more Nicaraguense. that doesn't involve a mall
kindly revise your remarks
John, malls do have redeeming qualities, the very same one's you denegrade with your comments in re: "linda chinandeganas"! Just what in the h-e-double-toothpicks would Miskito Alan and I do on a slow day at the office if we were not able to go to MetroCentro, have pecan pie with salt and butter at Casa de Cafe and enjoy the vistas?
You're outta line. Of course, you are Trouble Maker Izod John for a reason, right? ;~)
