  • For a gravity-feed system, you get about 1.4 PSI of pressure for each meter of head. So, for 20PSI, about the minimum that is useful, you need about 15 meters of head. That said, I regularly see tanks that are no more that 2 meters above where the water is used.
  • Hydraulic ram pumps can lift water as much as 10 times the initial head. Efficiency (that is, ratio of pumped water to waste water, are inversely proportional to the head to lift ratio.
  • Plastic water tanks seem to be the norm. Costs are about $220 for an 1100 liter tank.
