Construction Facts and Figures

Wrong name but I couldn't think of what makes sense. Inspired by my land shopping, what I want to do is build a book whose pages address various aspects of constructing a house or farm in Nicaragua. I welcome input. That is, books are cooperative projects--it is your chance to write a section on that which you know.

What type of permits or permissions are required to build a house in nicaragua? I would assume it depends on the area but just a general description would do. Thanks

It depends -- bigtime

While there may be some national standards, I doubt they mean anything in most areas. At least in the department of Esteli the permits come from the Alcaldia. So, legally, you go to them and get the permit. The price is based on the number of square meters you are building. They might come look at the construction at some point but that's about it.

On my house I got the permit before we did the new second floor plus a permit to dig up the street (to change where the sewer went). I don't remember but the total might have been $100.

When we built the casita on the finca and the well we didn't get permits. And across the street they have been building for about a year and have no permits.

Thanks

This helps me plan out what i want to do so thank you b.
