About this site
First, let me promise that my future blog entries will be about Nicaragua, not about geek/computer stuff. But, I needed to talk a little about what we are doing and I decided a blog entry was the most appropriate.
Notice that I said we. The geek side of me is just here to facilitate this place on the web. The only way it will work is if we all start contributing. This system, called Drupal, has some amazing capabilities that can help us all get information organized and available to others.
Before we get too far, if you are confused, click on FAQ in the upper right. That is where the site documentation lives. More is on the way.
My biggest concern is that the available capabilities will scare you away from contributing. While there are a lot of capabilities available, you can just use those you are currently comfortable with. You are able to read anything on the site without creating a login. Once you do create one you get many more capabilities. Let me describe just the basics.
- You can write a story. Nothing magic there--if you write one it just ends up made publically available. You can just enter text and put a line with a <p> between paragraphs or use the Textfile input mode (there is a help item when you go to write something) and it will look fine.
- You can write a blog entry. A blog is like a diary. The only way it really differs from a story is that all your blog entries will be associated with you so it is easy for a reader to find what you are saying. A travelog would make a good blog topic whereas something about an isolated subject would make a better story.
- Ask a forum question. Forums are organized by topics and you can add a new subject under a selected topic.
- You can post a comment. This comment could be associate with a story, a blog entry, or a forum entry.
Like I said, there is a lot more but that should be enough to overwhelm you for now. But, please say something. Participation is what is going to make this site work.
If you are interested in being an Editor, that is someone who maintains the content of the site, let me know.

Blog site
Phil, This is the second time I've tried to post a comment. Unsuccessful on first try. I'm not sure what textile means? When I pressed preview comment nothing happened. I am so glad that you are starting this blog, though and I'm ready to make my own blog. How do I do that? I saw that you posted an image of cows. So the bugs are working out of the blog. I don't know enough about blogs yet to make any suggestions. I have looked for other Nica blogs and only found one. There is a search engine for blogs called daypop. Can we add favorite blogs to this one?
It worked this time
This is my second report of something working "sometimes". No clues yet. But, it clearly worked this time. I guess we just continue to play until we fine the problem.
I will continue to add FAQ entries as I get time. But, for now, creating a blog is just like everything else (like this comment). Just go to create content in the menu. Clicking on it will give you options and one is for a blog. Just go for it.
Textile is an option to writing HTML. It is supposed to be easier. I haven even tried it yet. More when I know more.
The cow picture was easy to upload but I can figure out how to put it in a gallery yet.
You can link to anything you want from what you post. We can also add Nica-related links to the links pages.
All that said, this post really belonged in the site forum so it will be easier for people to find in the future.

Just a test
I just want to see if tuanis somehow creates a magic glossary link.
