Importing Automobile To Nicaragua

Submitted by cgrallert on 31 December, 2005 - 11:30.

Hi All,

I want to import my 1995 Nissan from the USA to Nicaragua. Does anyone know the process (laws, taxes, registration, etc...) required to do this?

Thanks, Chris

caveman say: "law 447=BAD, law 306=GOOD" (maybe)

according to law 447, chapter 1, article # 2.... you cannot import a vehicle that is more than 5 years old.

possible loopholes:

1) under law 306, law 447 will not apply. (i'm not a lawyer, but i believe thats how it works.)

Tourism Incentive law (Law #306)

The Tourism Incentives Law, which grants special incentives to the tourist-oriented industry allows: • 80% to 100% income tax exemption, depending on the type of activity. • Total property tax exemption for a period of 10 years. • Sales tax exemption on building design and supervision contracts. • Import and sales tax exemption for 10 years on design and construction materials and equipment. • Import and sales tax exemption for 10 years on furniture, equipment, vehicles, and accessories.

2) if one is moving to nica,i believe there was a law that allowed one vehicle per household to be imported. i do not know if this law has changed.
