I would like to read comments that people have had with different Spanish schools in the country. Please reply if you have experience.

I took regular classes at the UCA . . .

the University of Centroamerica in Managua. Great for those who want to feel like they are in a real educational setting and easy to access if one lives in Managua.

If you're in Granada go to...

Ave Nicaraguita

I've been studying with them and they are great. It's immersion schooling. No English. You can do home or school stay if you want. The school is also heavily involved in helping impoverished families.

The school I'm going to is in Granada but I know they have a school in Esteli, Masatepe and probably others.

One Tool to Compare Spanish Schools

http://www.123teachme.com/

has a search function and publishes user comments for language schools, including several in Nicaragua. I cannot vouch for any Nicaraguan school listed there, but I was satisfied with the one in Bolivia I chose, in part, from the recommendations on that site(Academia Latinoamericano, Sucre).

CENAC

I had a good experience with the CENAC school in Esteli. There's a link on Fyl's post. Had a great host family. The instructors personlize the instruction to your knowledge level and needs. Esteli is a great location. Beautiful part of the country. You can always visit the beaches but Esteli is just a wonderful area to explore.

You might start with http://www.nicaliving.com/node/47 and also generically searching for spanish school. You will find quite a few posts here.

an update

I've been going to Horizonte School in Esteli. The program, instructors, and facilty are all excellent, with one major comment: they are geared to the student who is there for a short amount of time, usually 1 to 3 weeks. For this they have an intensive schedule of 4 hrs a day, 5 days a week. This is common to most language schools. If you are in a hurry and motivated, this works. You will be very busy, because after the class you should plan on 2 hours of book work and 2 hours or more of purposely talking to people.

If this doesnot fit your schedule or mindset, I would suggest you make other arrangements. I adapted to this system by alternating weeks, 1 week at school with 1 week traveling and resting.

I sugjest that you bring some books with you, including a good Eng/Span dictionary, a grammar book in English (the workbook I wrote up under "book reviews" is spiffy) and a conjugation book like "501 verbs". You will need them. Also, occasionally break out of the loop and try to read a local newspaper or magazine.

Which Spanish School

Does anyone have any knowledge/ experience with any of the schools in San Juan del Sur? I'm going to be there in February and have heard mixed reviews. Thanks for any information.

Check www.123teachme.com It has a pretty long list of schools. You can sort information there based on country and cities, prices, quality, etc.
