Cllaro aircard internet

I'm having trouble with my Claro net connection. Within the last hour I did three speed tests and got 0.05 Mb/s, 1.41 Mb/s, and 0.11 Mb/s. Last month one of my tests was 3.15 Mb/s. How do I find out if the problem is with Claro, or with me? I'm in Yalaquina, 10 - 15 km from Somoto.

Be Aware Too
that PING is a poor indicator of what you are going to get when you start moving complex files, or have other traffic with significant bandwidth.
waslala..just got movistar...
has anyone compared it to claro..is it any better..claro..in waslala..is horrible..for internet
Commiserations!
I had the same trouble with Claro's USB internet gadget. Although I bought what they called "4G" , it was impossibly slow. Most of the web sites I routinely read would not even open. Claro's local office in Matagalpa tested it and confirmed its slow speed, then they sent the gadget to Managua to be examined by their "experts". They returned it saying there was nothing wrong with it. Hm..... so it is their whole system that is clogged.
I solved the problem by convincing my landlord to let me add DSL, at its fastest speed, to their service. Finally I have a fast, reliable, albeit expensive, connection.
Aloha, saludos, and good luck solving your problem.
Fourth Generation -- that has NOTHING to do with speed.
Prepago -- without a contract -- is notoriously problematic. DSL should be better absent problems with the copper, which is less likely here than in parts of the US with older copper yet.
I've had slow times, but what I have mostly works, and seems to even be working with YouTube most of the time.

Monday seemed a bit crap here, yesterday was okay here
Today looks like this:
3/6/2013 3:30 PM GM 0.82 Mb/s 0.35 Mb/s 218 ms Managua < 50 mi
3/6/2013 3:29 PM GMT 2.28 Mb/s 0.35 Mb/s 190 ms Tegucigalpa ~ 150 mi
This is still under my top download speed of slightly over 4 Mb/s. It's probably Claro.

Thank you, I think that the problem may be a change in Claro policy. In testing today, I was connected to Managua most times; one time to San Jose, which was three times as fast as Managua! I used to be tied to San Pedro Sula or Tegucigalpa, but now they don't even show up during the ping.
The site you connect to for the speed test has nothing to do
with your USB modem connection to your Claro tower & Claro 3G/4G "policy". Your speed test involves pinging local speed test sites to find the lowest ping time from your local Claro connection to those sites. Then they run the speed test to that site. Big differences for ping time and speed results are due to "congestion" or "slow networks" or "bottlenecks" in the network to those sites. Sometimes slow speed seems to be due to bottlenecks at the local Claro server and all speed tests to different sites are slow. OK you might call crappy service "policy". But the differences you measured are probably due to the external network congestion.between Claro & those sites.
The "digital" measurement you see for your speed tests is not that useful. For a much better graphical presentation of speed download one of the free programs like NetWorx and watch it while the speed tests are run.

Unfortunately measurements do not do anything to improve your connection. Usually a pre-pagado pay as you go Claro 3G connection in SJDS will run a cyber well all day including Skype calls. 2-3MB down and a little less up. C$25 for 500MB means recharging several times a day if the cyber is busy.
