Colonoscopy 2013

My partner is in need of some recommendations for this procedure. Anyone here have some up-to-date details on pricing and possible locations?

There is an old thread that recommends the Military Hospital. http://www.nicaliving.com/node/15367 Is that still a good option?

2nd Dr. Morales

Had one done by Dr. Morales a few years back at Hospital Vivian Pellas. An "intimidating" experience the first time through but I felt it was very professionally handled and on reflection was smooth sailing through it all. IMHO the hospital is easily equal to or better than most hospitals you'll find in Canada or the U.S. in terms of patient care, professionalism and modern facilities. Many of the doctors that I know there are North American or European board certified (great, but not the be all and end all I'm sure) and we often hear of them attending professional development seminars held throughout the world.. The cost was about about $300 on the Club de Salud plan of which I am a member. It may be about double that if not a member.

Dr. Omar Eli Morales

Dr. Omar Elí Morales in Hospital Metropolitano is one of the best in Nicaragua his cell phone is: 88834201 at the Hospital: 22556900.-

Hospital Militar

Lots of comments but no mention of this facility so let me toss in what I know. I have an aunt who was sent there for some tests and they did a good job. Also, just a few days ago, my wife had recommented it to some other friends with a problem that could not be addressed in Estelí. No first hand knowledge but apparently it still gets recommended.

Comparison

This information does not hep you select a Nica hospital, but it does offer perspective - which is hopefully encouraging: in 2012 I know of people who had one done in Colorado and Nicaragua / Honduras. The basic cost, including prep appointments, etc., in the U.S. vs private care in C.A. was: $1300 / $2300 (insured / uninsured, in the U.S.) vs. $185-$385 in C.A.

Hospital Metropolitano does a great Executive Checkup...

that includes this procedure. Of course you can get just the needed procedure as well.

Call Arlen Perez who is an English-speaking concierge at the hospital. She handles Medical Tourism. Tell her Mike from El Portón Verde sent you!

My b&b, Farmstay El Portón Verde is really close-by so we sometimes host guests who are recuperating and want to do it in a very mellow and fresh environment. One of those guests is just leaving today actually.

I dont see it listed

had 1 done last yr..

how did you negotiate that price?

My companera just went there (Salud Integral) today and was quoted $1000 for that and the removal of a single polyp.

i didnt negotiate..

told my urologist dr.jorge saborio lacayo i needed 1..an he set it up for me..told me how much..and i went in..it was located next to where they do the blood test in the hospital

Thanks!

Good information for all of us oldies.

No personal experience but Salud Integral

Consistently gets high marks from a cross section of people I talk to. So much so, I might try them over Vivian Pellas next time. I hear the over 40 check there is only $250.

Get out of there

as fast as you can, no medical procedures should be undertaken in a 3rd world country, I'm just sayin!!!!!

Dorite...

A friend of mine went home to the 1st world (Houston) to have a simple procedure on his shoulder. Got a staph infection and nearly lost an arm.

Hospital Metropolitano is regionally accredited...

meaning it is one of the top hospitals in Central America.
