For Roundup Fans

Farming in Nicaragua is different than farming in the US. Nicaragua still has a significant number of family farms. Not all but some of them have not progressed to the there is a chemical for everything mentality. This article is about US farming. It sounds like a warning for what can go wrong if Nicaragua moves to corporate farming.

Titled Nearly Half of All US Farms Now Have Superweeds, it points out what is wrong with the Roundup generation of farming. Much like overuse of antibiotics has created a new generation of bacteria, Roundup has greated a new generation of weeds.

Nearly half (49 percent) of all US farmers surveyed said they have glyphosate-resistant weeds on their farm in 2012, up from 34 percent of farmers in 2011.

The good news is that this is going to help end the current generation of GMO crops. The bad news is that Monsanto is already preparing for the next level in the war against nature.
