Things to do in Esteli

I, along with a couple friends will be back in Esteli during the week of Jan 13 to do our usual visiting of various tabacaleras. I would like to see and/or do some non-cigar related things. Anyone have any tips for me? Also, where is the Chinese restaurant in Esteli? I'd like to see what Nicaraguan-Chinese food is like...

Esteli en Linea is a pretty

Esteli en Linea is a pretty good resource (Spanish only) for basic info on things to do/see in Esteli.

Pics and info on the chinese restaurant: La Gran Via

3 items

1) new regional museum is rumored to be open--probably traditional hours . Near the library, west of Transito. Attached Plaza Parque is pleasant around nightfall.

2)La Casita Restaurant at southern entrance to town (closed mondays, busy weekends).

3) Salta estanzuela, about 5 km from town. Probably a little hot and dry this time of year.

Also, lunch at Ecopasada Tisey in the Tisey Reserve. (down same road as the waterfall, busy on Sundays).

Do a search of this sight and you will turn up some info on these places.

I haven`t eaten at the chinese restaurants for years. If I were forced to eat in Gran Via for social reasons I would only go for the lunch special at midday if it was crowded and I would only eat the most common thing being offered.

we were passing by

the new museum and it looked open so we stopped. Hours are 830 to 1130 and 2pm to 430 pm, M-F.

This museum is of the quality of the other regional museums I have seen but this one is a little bigger and much prettier, both inside and out. they have really gone all out on the decoration. Emphasis is on archeology with pleanty of petroglyphs present but with other displays of history inckluding old photos of the town and local leaders from the 20s to 40s, the insurection, hurican mitch, and a display of Nic coins and banknotes. Definately worth a stop if you are interested in such things.
