article: Nicaragua - A US Colony Again?

Warning: This article is an ultra-left wing take on the recent visit from the U.S. State Dept's Robert Zoellick to Nicaragua. Very much from the "evil U.S." version of reality . . .

http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/HL0510/S00175.htm

What I find interesting is the author's take on Lewites, and how he he will "embrace US-style "free market" capitalism, and the abandonment of national sovereignty that move entails."

The article goes on to illustrate what a joke it is for politicians like Lewites saying they are going to be "rescuing Sandinismo" when they are so busy proving to the U.S. gov't how "democratic" they are . . . while not saying anything about their beliefs vis-a-vis privatizing water, banning generic drugs, etc. You know, stuff that will actually be important for the people of Nicaragua . . .

The primary motivation for Zoellick's visit, (again, according to the article) was to slap around the Constitutional Liberal Party (PLC) to push through ratification of the Central American Free Trade Agreement. I guess that your efforts paid off RZ!

Now, whether or not more jobs come to Nicaraguans or not remains to be seen. Let's hope so.

Well - I Wish

Miskito Alan says that he wishes he were smart enough to understand what all this means to us in Puerto Cabezas.

I don't.

If the airplanes come, we fly. If the planes don't come, we stay.

If the pipe water comes, we take.

If the pipe water don't come, the boys take water from the well.

If we have light, we use.

If we don't have light, we get flashlights or candles.

No light - no internet(s).

Manana is not "tomorrow"; but, is "otra dia".

I asked somebody in the Bahamas in the 1970s the time of the day and I was told there was plenty of time and that is also Nicaragua for me.
