What illegal drugs are popular in Nicaragua?
This topic is inspired by comments in http://www.nicaliving.com/node/20267. From my personal observations and input from some people I have talked with in the National Police, at least in Northern Nicaragua there is no huge drug sale/use problems, at least compared to what I am familiar with back in the US.
Virtually all the arrests I have factual information about have been for relatively small amounts of marijuana and crack and virtually no other drugs. By relatively small amounts, I mean a local retailing to a user. No drug factories, no high-profile organizations and such.
Marijuana is, well, just a weed and growing and marketing is easy. Cocaine seems to be something that gets into Nicaragua not by demand but because bales of it wash up on the beaches of the Atlantic. The post I pointed to is the first time I had even heard meth mentioned with regard to Nicaragua.
I would expect cocaine is popular in areas where there are more Gringos because they are going to be used to using it and more likely to have the money to buy it. But, again, in the north, if someone classifies the area as having serious drug problems, I cannot think of the right word for describing most major US cities.

My impression is that there's some poly-abuse in Jinotega
Everyone knows who is doing what, even if they aren't arrested for it. The pattern for coke heads here is mostly drinking a lot and then using coke when it's available and the guy has money. The glue sniffers seem to be common enough that I'm warned about them. I've heard that such and such an area is where the heroin trade is, just haven't seen money and packets changing hands. Expat suspected pot smokers are mocked by the kids in the street.

the drug..
of choice in the tica bus area of managua..is paga..glue..i dont know if it is legal or not
In the Pacfic region ....
.... including Managua the drugs of choice in descending order are as follows.
1. Rotgut aguardiente like Caballito.
2. Marijuana is all over the place and lots of people use it but keep it a big secret.
3. Airplane glue.
4. Rock cocaine. Piedra can be bought just about anywhere at cheap prices including areas where there are no Gringos.
5. Cocaine but only among the children of privileged families and mochileros.
6. In the countryside they make moonshine out of rotten bananas and maduros.
Drug abuse is a huge problem in the poorest barrios of Nicaragua and in terms of its impact, from what I have seen it as bad or worse than the skid roads of North American cities.
