Orchid and bromeliad books

Orchid and bromeliad books

Picked up a couple books from Inbio`s website. Volume one of the Orchid series seems pretty good and has good photos for most of the 70 or so species covered. They have 4 more volumes at this time covering more species. Since there are 1200 plus species of orchids in CR, they have along way to go.

I hear on the grapevine than somebody is doing a book on 600 Nicaraguan species, but don`t have any details as to when it will be out and what it will cost.

The bromeliad book covers 80 species with a note that they would like to include 120 more in a future edition. Although I generally do not like illustrations in a scientific book, the drawings in this one are very accurate and quite charming, like some of the old botanical illustrations before cameras became common. Unfortunately, they printed the book on paper about 1 inch too small which makes the whole presentation very awkward. !Bean counters! Give them a A on content and a D on presentation.

As with most Inbio titles, they are in both English and Spanish.
