Chagas Disease

While Chagas is not unique to Nicaragua and is starting to be common in North America, it sounds like it is becoming serious. The most serious part is lack of a cure.

In any case, an article in The Daily Mail is at least a resource. While the text may be a bit too sensationalist, there is an excellent photo of a Triatomid, the bug which delivers the infection to humans.

Due to the severity of the illness, the amount of people infected and the ability of prevention, Chagas is considered one of the Neglected Parasitic Infections, a group of five parasitic diseases that have been targeted by CDC for public health action.
