Another "Illegal Immigration" in the US Story

We, like most sites about Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras and such, have our share of stoies related to people illegally immigrating to the US. Most have little to do with more than legal games. If you want to hear a bit more about a real example, there is a good article in Forbes t titled Girl Refugees: From the hands of smugglers to community leaders. There are two women's stories told, one being from Nicaragua.

From the article

“To get into the United States, I swam across the river in south Texas, in the middle of the night in my underwear, carrying a plastic bag filled with dry clothes.” This was the beginning of Olga Cantarero’s harrowing journey from Nicaragua to the United States — fearing for her life at the hands of her smugglers. Olga’s story is filled with tragedies and triumphs.

This is neither here nor there, but ...

... I crossed the Rio Grande (Rio Bravo) once, illegally I suppose. (I had no 'documentation', no passport.) I waded across, back before there was a 'drug war'. Though I didn't speak a lick of Spanish, the kids in the village were very friendly, OK, curious but not impolite. It was when I had waded up the spectacular Santa Elena canyon in Big Bend National Park in Texas on the border.

A nod at relevance: I believe Latino immigrants to the USA are a vital infusion of energy, hope & determination. They work hard & they party, but are not dopers, cause their lives are solidly grounded in family.
