NicaBirds

What a great find. I came across this blog, NicaBirds, which describes itself as an informal repository for interesting bird sightings and information on where to watch birds in Nicaragua. It provides other Nicaragua birding links and you may submit your Nicaraguan bird sightings in English or Spanish. The owner's long term goal is for NicaBirds to provide a one-stop English language resource for visiting birders.

One of my and another Facebook Friend's Friends is Nicaragua Birding, who is a local with an intense interest in birds who told my friend she did bird guiding. There are two lists of Nicaraguan birds, the Wikipedia one which has links to species descriptions but which doesn't show as many bird as this one http://www.birdlist.org/nicaragua.htm which has a terrible interface. Various organizations do mist netting and find new species for Nicaragua about every year.

This site may be useful for people looking for guides: http://www.birdingpal.org/Nicaragua.htm

According to one Nicaraguan ecologist I've talked to, the northern part of Nicaragua has birds common with Mexico and northern CA, and the areas below the lakes have more in common with Costa Rica and Panama and SA.
